Nightshroud99 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I for one want this set, it's pretty expensive though. However, I only have 1 other UCS set and this one is really impressive. The figures are great, and Darth Vader has a printed holocron. Quote
blueandwhite Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 We all knew it'd be this expensive, why the surprise? I also don't see anything here that changes someone's mind from a must buy to not going to buy. Nothing here is unexpected. I hope they have a limited run of this set. It's very expensive for a set that simply looks 'okay.' (in my opinion at least). It really lacks the visual impact of the Millennium Falcon, the Imperial Shuttle or even the now classic ISD. As far as I'm concerned, It just isn't that exciting for $500. Quote

It's lacking the wow factor and I'm not really sure why. Apart from Dengar I not particularly impressed with the figures either. If it was cheaper I'd possibly still buy it, but at this price - no chance. Quote
Cpt. Dan Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 This looks great, the detail is awesome. I love the new head for IG-88 and Dengar. I think Lego hit a home run with this one, very cool. Too bad it's so expensive but that was to be seen. Quote
The_Box Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 This exact piece is also being included in 7964 Republic Frigate, for those who are interested. Which makes me wonder which set was that piece designed for? To me, it makes no sense in the frigate since I didn't think anyone on the Jedi Council ever talked to Sidious at all. Sadly, like all other USCs, this is on my do not buy list. The set had so much potential and even had one decent exclusive figure, Dengar. Piett doesn't count since, at least to me, looks like a bunch of recycled parts and even Lego isn't counting IG-88 as a real mini-figure. @blueandwhite, I agree with you completely. However, I never really liked the Shuttle, not just the set but also the ship in the movies as well. I felt it lacked something. I could go on and on about this set but I feel like its not worth. Quote
-R8- Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I think the minifigures are great to have in the set. Yes, they aren't really well integrated into the set as some kind of play function, but they are at least iconic of a classic scene in the movie that the SSD stars in. I'm really impressed by the way the engines look, that first shot is spectacular. That being said, the rest of the underside is unimpressive. I wonder how possible it would be to build and integrate an underside for the model using the magnet system that the ISD used, or if even a simple gradient created with layers of plates would suffice. The top part of the model looks splendid from afar, and the removable module is a neat little feature. The press release doesn't say whether it has it or not, but I think additional modularity like in the Eiffel Tower set would have been nice to have for easier transportation. But despite its massive length, it shouldn't be nearly as hard to move, like with the Death Star II. Not a fan of the mini Star Destroyer. I wouldn't have minded if the one from the Death Star II was reused. Of course the price is a big turn-off, but these days I think most of us are accustomed to high prices on all of LEGO's sets, even though none of us are happy about it. Seeing as I don't typically buy new sets anymore unless it's mind-blowingly fantastic, I will probably pass on this one. However, I do look forward to reading the reviews on this set when it comes out. Quote
Dadzilla Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 I have to agree with my fellow members here, this is a no-buy from me. I don't buy UCS sets to play with them, so the removable bridge is utterly pointless. Even the number of pieces seems to be on the low side, and for $400USD!!! What the hell LEGO! It's obvious they were going for the scene where Vader has the bounty hunters gathered to search for the Millennium Falcon. So where are the other bounty hunters? Zuckuss, 4-LOM, Boba Fett??? I know you would need an entire garage space to get this at minifig scale, but I really thought this set was going to be larger. I'm disappointed. If this set ever goes on sale, I might consider purchasing it then.....might. :( Quote

lightningtiger Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 It's not Palpatine though, is it? Then who else in the whole Star Wars world is two faced back stabbing eh ? He shows his true colours in ROTS. I think 'KimT' should put in a poll to judge what everyone thinks about this set. Quote
The_Box Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 It's not Palpatine though, is it? Its the same person. Even in the video games, Lego has never made two distinct figures of Darth Sidious and Emperor Palpatine. Quote
drdavewatford Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Thumbs up from me, although the minifigs are entirely unnecessary. Eye-watering price though - it ties for most expensive LEGO set ever with the UCS Falcon which has 2000 more pieces...... D. Quote
RileyC Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 I really like the look of this USC. I personally don't mind having the playability in there because from initial looks you can't even tell where it is. This is great cause then if you just want to display it, you can. Dengar looks amazing. The printing on his face and torso is incredible. The way they were able to put little traces of blue on his torso really makes the minifig stand out. A new IG 88 print looks ok. At least it's different to what we have been getting. The little emperor hologram piece looks amazingly detailed too. Though what bugs me about this set is that the grebbles look quite repetitive. A good grebble uses an assortment of different pieces to create a look. This only really uses a few. And it looks quite repetitive to me. Quote
Fallenangel Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 (edited) Yeah... this is a no-go for me. EDIT: In other news, the recent feedback over at FBTB appears to be almost completely positive. Hmm... Edited June 18, 2011 by fallenangel309 Quote

I mean in the Republic Frigate set. Is Yoda also talking to Sidious? I'm not an expert in SW, but I don't think Sidious and Yoda were conversing during the Clone Wars. Solscud007 Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 That looks phenomenal. The price is high. But I think I will save up for it. The only problem i forsee is "where the heck will I put it?" It is so long!!!!! Quote
TheDarkness Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 I love it. Not fussed on the minifigs, and will never use the bridge sequence, but I think it looks awesome. The price isn't, but that's inconsequential since I missed out on the UCS Millenium Falcon worrying about the price. Quote
giggitygoo Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 I never knew that Alan Rickman (Snape) was also Admiral Piet Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 He isn't hard to make. You'll just need a imerial officer body and cap and snape's face. I don't think that's the exact same face as Snape. Not as many lines. It looks cool, but its not for me. I'd much rather have the Death Star. Agreed. $400 USD is a rather hefty price tag for a display piece of 3,100 pieces and only five minifigs. Not that I'm that surprised, but still, most likely a no-buy for me. A pity, 'cause I really liked this ship when we first saw it. Quote

Plus the hologram emperor is pretty cool. Quote
StoutFiles Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 I'm not sure why the price is such a big deal. There is no chance they'll remake this set; it'll sell on the aftermarket for at least double its value. As long as you preserve the box and instructions you'll get your money back. Quote

TheDarkness Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 You are okay with the idea of scalping? It's going to happen whether people like it or not. If people want the set, and it is discontinued, they either pay for it or go without. You only have to see how high the UCS MF is now, so I can see why people would buy a spare to hold onto. Quote
vexorian Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 As "skalpers" are usually one of the few ways one has to get sets he missed during his dark ages. Sure why not? Quote
Lego Otaku Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 If you still think $400 is a bit high. consider there are a lot of large pieces in the set, and large pieces = more raw materials needed to make it = high $. Taj Mahal is cheaper and has almost 6,000 pieces but they are all tiny pieces so that keeps the set a bit cheaper. I'm planning to get one eventually. I have a fleet of 12 mini ISD (4492) around ready to escort Executor. Quote
