Hello all...

Brand new member here, and have a question.

I live in the U.S... and LOVED... and still do love... legos, particually pirate legos. But do to the economy and trying to clean out storage area, I want to sell a bunch of sets i got when i was young. I believe the 5 ships i have are as follows... Blacks Seas Barricuda, Skulls Eye Schooner, Caribean Clipper, Renegade Runner, and the Imperial Flagship (1992)... the large islands are Rock Island Refuge, Eldorado Fortress, and the Imperial Trading Post.... along with probably 10 or 12 smaller islands, and sets. I have the original Instructions for the 5 or 6 sets in bold, and a lot of the box art (i liked to look at the different designs)

I have to do an inventory, and would before i would sell, but i would guess that these sets are 98% complete (i actually cant imagine missing peices, but i'm assuming there could be some... I loved to put the sets together, but i was afraid to ever take them apart, because i didnt want their peices to become mixed up with the rest of my legos. They have been in storage for about 16 or 17 years, are in GREAT shape, all the sails, clean peices... i HATE that i think i'm going to sell them, i loved them so much when i was young, but i know i'll never use them, and i am too afraid of ever letting my own kids play with them someday, because they would not be as meticulous as i was about keeping them all together and in great shape.... and i kind of want someone who really does love these sets like i did/do, to enjoy them.

So I guess i'm just wondering how I should go about selling these (ebay? any other sites? individual sets? all together in a lot? etc.) and how much i should expect to sell them for?

Thank you all, and i really do appreciate any response, tips, or advice.

If you're not in a hurry and want to sell the sets for a good price, I'd suggest putting them for sale on Bricklink.com and see how long it takes to sell them.

Try to look at each set's average sale price before listing your items.

BE VERY PRECISE WHEN LISTING THE SETS :pir-classic:

LEGO collectors want to get excactly what the description says. We can't be fooled :pir_laugh2:

Good luck with your sale, and I hope that you some day find the space in your budget to buy the sets again. You're gonna miss them while they are gone

As mentioned www.bricklink.com is your best friend in finding out the average selling price for your sets as well as getting an idea of what they are worth.

Remember, something is only worth as much as someone else is willing to pay for it.

This is important to note, because most of us have sentimental value attached to or LEGO's, I for one would not sell my BSB for a grand simply because to me it's worth more than money.

With that said, instructions are a must for really old sets, some people will want the box others may not, be sure you are clear what is included when listing it.

My personal preference is to do your research, decide on the dollar amount you want and then post a for sale thread on Eurobricks. Give your community first dibs, if no one bites, move onto bricklink or ebay if you choose. You may need a few more posts before you can post in the Buy, sell, trade forum.

BTW, welcome to Eurobricks as well as Classic-Pirates.com :pir-classic:

EBAY !!!! It's a good place to start looking to check an average price for sets in various conditions. As always list it acuratly and honestly ( trust me Lego fans can smell mega block substitute bricks lol ) You have some good rare sets here as I have not seen them on sale much I saw the the island fortress sell on ebay for £36.00 ( not sure the dollar value but around $70-80 ) Another site is Bricklink but this a sa fans site really and everyone knows what they have got and often over value it but again good to see values.

I definitly give your sets a look if i lived in the states lol :-)

Well thanks for the advice! I spent a while looking at Brinklink to see what they've been selling for. This evening i'm going to spend a lot of time unpacking my sets, and checking for missing pieces. It is sad to think of selling them, i got them out a couple years ago, when i was in need of money, but had to put them back when i remembered how much i loved them and really just how AMAZING they are. maybe i'll take some pictures and post them... make a few people drool ;)

But thank you for the help!

ok... well here are 5 ships and 3 big islands.... took a little longer to inventory them and set them up than i thought.

Sorry the pictures aren't very good (i dont have a great camera), but they are in better shape than i thought, and all 100% complete!!! I'll try listing some in the buy/sell area on here, if i figure out how :pir-blush:;) thanks for the input...

oh... and it took me longer than expected to put them together because i enjoyed 'working' on them :pir_laugh2:;)

I really wish i had a good camera... i'd be really fun to set some scenes up like you all do on here.... ahh... who am i kidding... i'll still set some scenes up :pir-classic:

Oh wow - they all look great.

I'm sorry that you have to sell them. But as I said earlier, you might find the spare cash at some point later in life, and buy the sets again.

on a side note: Please be aware that when you say 100% complete, the sets really must not lack a brick here and there. People who are buying LEGO sets really mean business :D

Good luck selling them, I'll keep an eye out for your topic
