SilvaShado Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 (edited) I'm new on the boards here and just wanted to share the MOC that my husband and I made for the elves from the minifigure series 3. We built the tree ahead of time and then outfitted it with elves as we found them. I stuck some regular females in there, but one of these days, hopefully, LEGO will make female elves and I'll be able to replace them. Anyway, hope you all enjoy! http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=455907 Edited June 13, 2011 by I Scream Clone Added deeplink Quote
I Scream Clone Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Welcome to Eurobricks SilvaShado, This is a really good treehouse for the elves you have collected. A nice interior with lots of levels, perhaps some more foliage on top would fill out the canopy some more as well. Keep up the building. Quote

You're right that it needs more on top. We used everything we had so we'll need to go and buy some more. But those darn things knock off so easily! And thanks for adding the image to my post. I'm still trying to figure out how everything works here. Every forum is different so it takes some time to get used to a new place. Quote
Halberd777 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Nice Treehouse I like the way it looks like one very large tree. Know don't take this the wrong way but if you have more brown pieces You can add another side to the tree so you have a complete tree with hinges to open like some of these techniques http://www.classic-castle.com/howto/articles/OpeningUp.html. I love the massive tree keep up the good work. Quote

I love the massive tree keep up the good work. Glad you like it. Thanks for the suggestion. We'd love to expand it to have it hinge open and closed, but the dang thing cost close to $200 to build because of all the reddish brown we had to buy. But maybe one day, we'll do it. Quote
Peanuts Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Excellent build, I like both the tree and the interior. As others already said, some more green on the top would be nice, but it looks already quite good as it is. I'm a bit bugged by the use of yellow and flesh heads in one MOC, which I guess is a matter of taste, but I usually avoid that. Anyway, it's still gorgeous. I'm a conformist!! Quote
Abu Dun Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 An interesting build, which from the setting looks like a well-done modern version of the classic river fortress of the forestmen. The way the elves are actually camouflaged a bit is really great, as is the revolving door which serves as the entry to the shrine I also like the way you incorporated the female figs and I don't think actual female elves would be so much different from yours - the ears might be hidden beneath the hair either way What I think is missing are some small branches and leaves at the trunk of the tree, since the area between the door and the treetop looks rather empty. fred67 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Great Elven Tree, SilvaShado, very impressive. Looks like it's got everything but a bathroom! I like the hammocks. The vertical brown plate kinds of throws me; I like the integration with the brown palisade bricks... I was able to get a box of those (1x2) at my local LEGO store, so maybe you could try there... I know what you mean about the cost, brown is expensive. Quote
Zeya Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Silva, are you the blogger on this site: http://thebrickblogger.com/2011/06/lego-building-technique-inverting-studs/ I saw this article in my RSS feed this morning. I learned about using those half technic pins for inverting studs from you today! I think for this MOC, you've got a big sideways plate that is begging to have something put on it, perhaps more branches or a wheel/pulley system and a hole to transfer goods into the tree. Quote

I don't usually mix either. I really didn't want to do the flesh tone females, but those were the best choices. As time goes on and I collect more females, I'm going to work on switching them out. As it is, these pictures show the old head for the main priestess. I have since given her the flesh head from that one female in the Indiana Jones series. That door was a work of genius of my husband. He really stunned me when he showed me how it worked. Finding good choices for female figs is always tough. Glad you liked them. I agree that the trunk is rather open. That's something we'll have to work on. Thanks for the suggestions! Great Elven Tree, SilvaShado, very impressive. I knew we forgot something! lol! It was my husband's idea to do the hammocks, but we worked on it together to get it to fit and look right. What are the palisade bricks? I'm not familiar with that term. I'd probably know what you're talking about if I could see it. We love medieval buildings so we're constantly buying brown whenever we can and we use it up just as fast! Quote
blackpyre Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Silva, are you the blogger on this site: http://thebrickblogger.com/2011/06/lego-building-technique-inverting-studs/ I saw this article in my RSS feed this morning. I think for this MOC, you've got a big sideways plate that is begging to have something put on it, perhaps more branches or a wheel/pulley system and a hole to transfer goods into the tree. Hey I'm Silva's husband. The article you're refering to is one I wrote. That technique was first used in this MOC. My wife wanted globes for lights and I had to figure a way to get those darn things up there. I really wanted to do more with the canopy. Unfortunately, it barely fits as it is. I wanted to build a fourth and fifth layer all comprised of branches, but space and money conspire against us. Oh, the studs on the side of the tree is something I do want to mess with. Originally, it is there to cover up tan pieces that would show through but it seems like an excellent spot to add something. My original thought was to make a hinging tree. But again space proved to be an issue. As it is, this entire MOC is a free build project. I imagine we'll end up with a few more elven creations like it in the future. Thanks for the comments. My husband wrote that particular blog entry, but I also write entries for The Brick Blogger. I demanded globes in the ceilings of each floor and that's the solution he came up with. I was quite amazed as I had never seen that done before. Quote

I'm sure I saw at least one or two in your MOC, but perhaps you just had round bricks next to each other. My local LEGO store recently had 1x2 on their PAB wall and I was able to get a box ($70). EDIT: trying to look again, but it looks like brickshelf is down as I write this. Edited June 14, 2011 by fred67 Quote

We haven't seen those at our local LEGO store, but we go in often to see what's new. Quote
