Big Cam Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I did just find something that bothers me. Opress has standard LEGO hands, but his torso is slightly paler, and his head piece is definitely a different shade of yellow. I wish he would have gotten custom colored hands as well. Quote
def Posted June 4, 2011 Author Posted June 4, 2011 Savages' print looks a little bright though, I'm guessing it's just the light eh? Somewhat. The prints are dark, so I did some levels adjustment after taking the pics. But, if you want to get a good judgment on it, his hands seem to be a standard LEGO minifig shade of yellow. I did just find something that bothers me. Opress has standard LEGO hands, but his torso is slightly paler, and his head piece is definitely a different shade of yellow. I wish he would have gotten custom colored hands as well. His headpiece is slightly off color from his head, it's a touch brighter. I'd put this down to it being the soft rubber that they use for these odd shapes. But it's really not that noticeable. I didn't pay much attention to it until I was taking pics. Quote
WhiteFang Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Thank you def. Even though I am not a huge fan of Savage Opress like you do, since I haven't watched Season 3 yet. I do appreciate the amazing details that was used on the minifigures. It is also good to see some variations on the usual minifigs. Quote
Ceroknight Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Thank you for the review! I am considering buying this, Great figures and also some cool speeders. One question though, how weird those the set look without applying the stickers? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Thanks for the review, def. Can't say I ever liked this set, but your review does make it seem better. The speeder looks okay; the minifigs are definitely the high point of this set. That said, I'm not the greatest fan of Savage, and while I suppose it is accurate to the show, his yellow hands are a little brighter than his print and stick out like a sore thumb to me. That and I don't like the spiky hat thing. It's doesn't integrate nicely IMO. Anakin and Ventress, though are definite improvements over their CW-version predecessors. Quote
prateek Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Great review, but as for the set, not so much. I am pleasantly surprised by the printed pieces though, and the figs are pretty nice. Quote
Fuzzylegobricks Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Very great review def! I love the minifigure too, but I wonder does his rubber ring come off easily? The prints and the stickers are all to my liking. Quote
drdavewatford Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 What is it you don't like with the ship? The shape? The color? Hey, def - I just think the original design is awful. Clunky and ridiculous. While none of the Star Wars vehicles are real, of course, you can at least imagine that some of them *could* be real in some alternative universe. I can't imagine anyone designing a craft as impractical and unnecessarily ugly in *any* alternative universe, however.... Nice review, though ! D. Quote
CMP Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Nice review def. I'm still scratching my head as to way so many people hate the design. Personally, I think the style of the speeder is unique and interesting. The jagged spikes, and yes, the aysemmetrical design are used quite well. Not to mention the figs. Dunno if I'll get it, but I'll be glad if I manage to. Quote
stackables Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 (edited) Nice review. Not a big fan of the stickers but still will put this on my to buy list. Edited June 4, 2011 by stackables Quote
Skinny Boy Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I'm shocked to say that a SW set review is the first thing that has made me log in for some time now, but that black hockey armor is just the thing I need. Thanks for the review. Quote
Delta 38 Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I didn't notice that Savage Opress had torso and back printing! Considering he also comes with armour, that's really unexpected. The stickers are a shame, especially with those printed slopes, but oh well... Quote
Masked Builder Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Good work! This is one of those sets that I too have to get. I do like that some of the tiles are printed. I can't wait to get this. Quote
Praiter Yed Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I suspect this is more about the figs than the vehicle, seems an odd choice for a set. I had no interest in this and still have no interest, I did enjoy your review however - very entertaining. Quote
ZO6 Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Thanks for this great review, Def! Nice photos too, I particularly love your title pic (did you do the mountainous background yourself?). As some of you may know by now, I have yet to see any episodes of the Clone Wars tv show. I am therefore unfamiliar with both this ship and the Savage Opress character (I saw the Clone Wars movie, so I'm somewhat familiar with Ventress). That Savage Opress minifigure looks pretty neat, but I don't find it as appealing as the similar Darth Maul one simply because I'm more familiar with the latter. I must say that I really dig the little spiky headpiece, so I'm fine with there being a planet full of those folk. The ship doesn't seem to be the most inspired looking thing ever, but perhaps if I saw it in action I might warm up to it a bit (though as you said, it only appears on screen for a matter of seconds ). Despite the predictable amount of stickers, I'm very pleased with the printed parts in the set. Quote
def Posted June 5, 2011 Author Posted June 5, 2011 I love the minifigure too, but I wonder does his rubber ring come off easily? That's something else I should add to my review. The head piece is simply like a sort of hat. Very easy to remove. did you do the mountainous background yourself? Yup. But it was a quickie. The colors and all I simply lifted from a Clone Wars screen shot. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Excellent review def, thanks for sharing! I'm very surprised my views on this set have turned around 180-deg. upon seeing this review - the nightspeeder is a very good rendition of the source material and I like the detachable playability feature which I'm sure the kids will really enjoy. The three figs are great too - no matter how over-released Anakin is it's nice to get a new torso for him, a new Assajj is always welcome (and a chance for others to get her in a cheaper set than the RGS), and the Savage fig is very cool despite the questionable rubber head top. Overall, a pretty good set to get IMO. Quote
blksuperman2 Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Awesome, awesome, awesome. This is a must have set for me. The summer wave of sets this year is going to cost me a whole lot of dinero. Quote
Strand Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Seems reasonably well-built, the break-off speeders thing was needed. Not a big fan of the minifigs or the vehicle (which was a real blink-and-you'll-miss-it thing) so I'll probably wait for this on discount. Quote
Cpt. Dan Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Great review, I can't wait until I can find these in stores. Thanks for posting this! I think this is an OK set, nothing special in terms of the pieces but the figs are amazing. Quote
Artanis I Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 The booklets Standard booklet. Nothing special. Guess who's on the back ohhhhhh I hate that guy!!!! Skimmed the review because I don't want to miss out on all the surprises. Looks better than I thought. Quote
LEGO AFOL Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Nice review and thanks for doing It. I like the minifigures very much. Quote
Rufus Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Top-notch review as ever, def! I'm glad you got in there first To sum up my feelings on this set: it's a good LEGO rendition of a ridiculous vehicle. If I were dead-set on collecting figures, a completionist, or were also suffering a Savage man-crush, I could justify splashing out on this set, but for me there are more important purchases this summer. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 A nice review on a set that I still only have the slightest interest in buying. Interesting to see the head mold for Savage. Great job. Quote
