gcanik Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 After watching the Space Shuttle Endeavour launch on Monday, May 16th 2011 (STS-134) with my son I thought to myself, 'wouldn't it be cool to take the original classic space shuttle from 1979 and recreate it 32 years later but using a NASA color scheme and including the Spaceman minifig from the series 1 Collectable Minifigures.' Thus this creation was born. I wanted to keep a very similiar shape to 442 but change the color to white with a black bottom and black edges to the wings like the current space shuttle fleet and other NASA space aircraft. I didn't want to over build it and include a ton of playable features, so I kept it simple by including only some easy to reach space tools (two wrenches) and two directionally positionable engines underneath the tail section (they also act like landing gear keeping the shuttle in balance when it is sitting flat). I also gave the Spaceman a white oxygen/air tank like the original astronaut figures. And yes that is my original 442 Space Shuttle from 1979 that I had as a five year old kid, I just had to go raid my sons Lego collection to find some of my original pieces again. Front Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I am pretty sure me and my brothers had that set back as kids. I like your new version, although I would have liked the use of the Atlantis divers helmet in white with gold visor, as used in the 2011 City Space sets. Helmet Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Ahh, the classic days were spaceships have open cockpits, and you really did a great job modernizing the original space shuttle with the newer parts and spaceman minifig. Quote
