Monster trucks

Hello,

While I wish and wait for a big official monster truck set I was wondering if anyone has created one of their own? There seems to be mostly trucks and sports cars built.

Also, are there big enough tires available in order to build one properly?

Thanks, it's something like Sariel's monster truck I want. Anyone know from what set those tires are from?

Sariel is using the wheels and tires from the 8457 Power Puller set. You can get 22969c01 "Wheel 62mm D. x 46mm Technic Racing Large, with Black Tire Technic Power Puller (22969 / 32298)" from Bricklink (the "Unofficial Lego Marketplace" worldwide):

I have a bit of difficulty judging how big those rims are compared to the ones for the 8070 Supercar, the ones Sariel is using are a bit smaller right?

EDIT: Afrer some research I found that the 8297 set is using the same rims as the 8070 Supercar. Pretty massive wheels it looks like.

The only one of mine that I have pictures of is this one;

It features 4 wheel drive, live axles, suspention, powered by 2 ungeared 9v motors, custom 5f+r transmission (the one from the 8448 is just too weak, can't take any power!) and steering from the steering wheel.

This was built like 10 years ago when the power puller first came out. I was happy with it then, it was very strong, the only weak part being the rods connecting the axles to the chassis, and the gearbox was bulletproof! But looking at it now, i'de like to build a far better one with a more tubular steel looking frame, a more american looking body, longer travel, more authentic looking suspension and a real fast top speed. Heck now that i'm board with my jeep hurricane MOC (works great, but the thought of doing the bodywork just doesn't exite me) I might start on it now.

BTW if anyone is interested I might post some pics of the hurricanes working chassis.

I was thinking of the rims only.

I believe there are a lot of parts I am missing in order to build a good monster truck even if I had those wheels; I only have the parts of the 8070 car at my disposal atm.

Grave digger would be sweet, but I don't think I have enough green beams to do the tubular frame. Have you seen the 1/4 scale (non-lego) grave digger being built on youtube? It's awesome!

Yeah just had a look at it, really cool.

If you are not concerned with using 100% Lego pieces in your Monster Truck, you could consider using Inanimate Reason's Adapter Kit and regular wheels/tires from your local hobby shop. Read about the possibility on this Eurobricks post.

On his Facebook page, Sariel states that "...the Monster Truck is complete. I will publish it in a few days. The final weight is just a little over 2kg, so I think it's lighter than it appears, but I was forced to add one short shock absorber at each wheel. This change makes suspension work better while not limiting its travel. And no, I am not taking this truck for TrTr. I will just focus on filming this time."

I want to stick to LEGO but thanks for the tip. After looking at all the photos posted in this thread it seems like I need the power wheels whatever the cost, and some bigger shock absorbers too.

I used the Wheel 56mm D. x 34mm Technic Racing, with Black Tire 94.8 x 44 R Balloon. And yeah, I might give it another try after I finish my tatra

Thanks, thinking of buying those for now because they fit the wheels of the 8070 which I already have.

I really like these types of trucks and I have had some basic plans for quite a while but I have never really had the time to develop one to a stage I am happy with, this thread now has me more interested so I will be doing some more work on this.

I couldn't resist making a new render because I was not happy with the last one I did in 2009:

Sariel's new monster truck looks comparable in size, so I would love to see them sitting side by side.
