Hello!

Some months ago i already show a video about a full functional armed LEGO mech i build in this board. Then after we planed and announced a contest in nov. 2011 the production team of a popular German TV science show contact us and plan to bring a contest documentation in TV.

Now we contact LEGO through this company and hope to find some sponsors.

At the moment we only have the problem to find out how many LEGO Technic freaks like to create vehicles and mechs to be a part and oponent at the contest here in Germany, november 2011. Helpers and spectators welcome too. And its possible to send the creations if you not able to travel to germany. We have enough pilots.

If you interested in the first LEGO mech battle contest and dream about showing your creation in TV, check out our webpage and contact me as soon as possible. I have to finish the first plan, including a estimate oponent number very soon.

Thank you already for the feedback about the first mech videos i already posted here some months ago.

My son built a good Lego Battlebot and got 2nd Place at Brickfest 2009 in Portland, Oregon. We just might send the 'bot to Germany for somebody else to drive. It is still assembled, but its design shall remain a closely-guarded secret. The rules of your competition allows for almost anything:

"THE ULTIMATE LEGO BATTLE 2011

Location: Bavaria - Germany

Contest category:

Show/design, Race, Parcour, Target shooting, Battle, Mission

Contest rules overview:

I think the only problem is that the IR system has only 4 channels. I have no idea how many motors you've used, but if there's a head-to-head battle, it's impossible to use all functions at the same time.

Hello,

yes you all right, and sorry that i not post so many informations here, i not want to write to much somebody maybe not want to know already in detail.

The detailed rules for the contest i will bring online today or tomorrow at my webpage.

And about the motors, you can use 4 channels, each with 2 motors, also 8 functions. This 8 channels the first mech prototyp already using.

I already know this make VS fights impossible, so we going to replace the IF reciever, and put some RC or WLAN reciever inside.

The rest, battery and motors staying the same, and the reciever is not that much diferent in size. So, everybody not worry, we would replace the IF problem before the contest. And for building and testing it not make some different.

And about secret keeping, of course we not interested to show all secrets in detail to the "world", we just need info pictures or and videos, for documentation of how to use your mech and for repair it if something brocken in fight that would be happen for shure. But theres some info about this in detail in the contest ruiles. just take a look tonight or tomorrow, i try to put it online soon.

nice greating, and thank you for the feedback,

@ Rayjunx: I downloaded your Competition Instruction Book (MS Word document) off of your website, and have the following questions IN RED TEXT after the applicable portions of the rules reprinted below:

THE FIRST ULTIMATE LEGO MECH BATTLE

05.11.2011 GERMANY

Version 1

- COMPETITION INSTRUCTION BOOK -

1) Qualified vehicle types:

A) Tank:

-Maximum size: 45x45cm, 30cm height

-Maximum weight: 3,5kg

-Driving on at least 2 chains {Do you mean the tank must have two sets of TREADS, or do you mean that the PF Motors must transmit their power to the Sprocket Wheels via Technic (Chain) Links?}

B) Tank based mech:

-Maximum size: 60x60cm, 50cm height

-Maximum weight: 5kg

-Driving on at least 2 chains {Same question as above}

-Head with lightened eyes, at least 25cm above the ground

-Rotatable torso and at least 2 rotatable arms/weapon systems

C) Walking mech:

-Maximum size: 70x70cm, 70cm height

-Maximum weight: 7,5kg {Are you sure that it is possible to make a 100%-Lego Walking Mech that weighs this much? 7.5 kg = 16.5 lbs. (which will bend Technic Axles}

-Walking with at least 2 legs

-Head with lightened eyes, at least 25cm above the ground

-Rotatable torso and at least 2 rotatable arms/weapon systems

2) Building methods and material:

-Allowed materials are only LEGO parts. Non-LEGO rubber bands and strings are only allowed for building weapon systems, not to bonding or armor structure.

-Gluing parts together or modification (cutting, melting, drilling whatever) of LEGO parts is not allowed.

-Parts including metal are only allowed in the electric components.

-Parts including lead are not allowed (often used in ship model bricks) {You mean the 73090b 2x6x2 Boat Weights http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=73090b ?}.

3) Electric and controlling:

All vehicles are using the LEGO power function elements including the standard and the XL motor and get controlled by human. The LEGO-IF-Receiver can be used for building and testing your mech. For the contest we only have to replace this receiver element and use a RC or WLAN controller (close the similar size).

As soon as possible we update this document with more information about this.

But we believe this open fact would not be a big problem for your mech/tank developing process.

4) Competition disciplines:

Discipline 1 design rating:

Every mech/tank with turned on lights show a moving/function demo and get a design rating. This points deciding with the other ratings about the winner. Important is a realistic and cool mecha design. So we favor guns and not a big hammer regardless of the efficiency. If you make melee weapons, try to make mecha-like ones, like claws, chainsaws etc.

Discipline 2 missions rating:

In this discipline everybody get one or more missions in all-round style. So you have to driving quick, driving through difficult terrain, braking walls and road barriers, and destroying targets in different distances. A reloadable distance weapon is recommended and some of the targets maybe have armed guard systems.

Discipline 3 VS battle:

This discipline is exactly what it sounds like. More details will following.

Environment:

The battle environment is an end time look like city with broken buildings, streets, parks etc. Most parts of the map are urban.

5) Verify process:

Direct before the contest every vehicle would be categorized and checked if valid to the rules. Cheaters get no permission to start at the contest.

6) Price:

This is the first competition like this ever, so we don’t know exactly how many spectators coming and how much sponsors we will have at the end. For sure we organize documents and prices, just how they looking exactly would be shown short before the event, or at the contest day itself. And we not take entry donation from spectators or attendants; it would be a free event.

7) Piloting, instructions and secret management:

You can come and pilot your own mech/tank. Or you send your vehicle here and we organize a pilot team for you. If you do so please note that we need some short documentation with tips how to use and control your mech. including if possible some repair overview (photos of details etc.). If we not have enough documentation we try to make it here. All this documents would not be published. Just the material of the contest including photos and videos of the battle would be shown outside. If we cannot repair broken parts, which are essential fort he contest we have to disqualify your vehicle. But we try our best.

Please note that we try to keep all parts together, but we going to have some hard fights. During these battles we cannot interrupt the battle, so it would maybe happen that we make little mistakes in the repair process. So please not be angry if some small parts mounted on another place, you get little more or little less LEGO parts back. We think this problem not going to be a big match.

8) Media and documentation

We look forward to have a TV team at the event. This documentation is planed for a TV Science show in Germany.

Also we setup a life stream if possible and connection with the Phoenix Battletech Con in Germany planed at the same date.

And its planed to make videos included pilot view video if possible we show later in YouTube etc.

Also we make a photo documentation for our webpage.

9) Environment builder, helpers and spectators:

We welcome everybody interested to watch the event, or maybe interested in helping us, the mech teams still need some more support. And who more like “city bricking” can find a place in the environment team that building the ambient urban city and mission maps for the contest. Every LEGO fan and freak is welcome to the event.

10) Sponsoring:

We still look for new sponsors. So if you maybe interested just contact us.

11) Version of this document and help:

This document maybe not already answers all your questions. But if you need help contact us anytime. We keep on working on this document and going to update it if necessary.

Hello!

thank you for the feedback, and sorry about my bad english ;)

about your questions:

i mean "the tank must have two sets of TREADS" , so just not use wheels.

about the ship part with lead inside. yes i mean parts like this. there so many lego parts that it is hard to have a good overview about all. what i meaning is just, not using leads or metal parts because more heave and strong, as bullet for guns, meele weapons, armor etc, all metal parts we using we need in the electric components and this is allowed.

the maximum weight is only a limit. the minimum weight is what ever you like, so you can make much more light weight "walking" mechs. the reason for the biger max is following:

if you build a 3kg tank and a 3kg walkinkg mech, the tank is much more efficient, the drive not take so much weight and is more quick etc. the mech just slower and the legs weak target for attack. But i want that all oponents can start in one class together, so we allow mechs that more difficult to build a bigger weight, allow them to compensate the more complicated technic for walking with being more big. Allow them to take biger weapons and more armor for the price of beeing more slow.

I hope i was able to help you, and i will update the instruction book soon for the next who maybe have the same questions.

Oh, and yes it would be hard to build a real walking mech with LEGO in that weight class, but you can use 4 or 6 legs. I will try this in july.
