lightningtiger Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Reading though the latest news on Lego I found this new story on a guy caught in a Target store in the US - stealing $1,300 worth but the cops found up to 10 grand worth of Lego stolen from different Target stores. News story I wonder if he stole a police station eh ? Quote

kibosh Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Lol! What a doofus. Doofus is right. Way to be subtle. At least that guy out in Washington a few years ago went hi-tech with his bogus bar codes. Quote
meschepers Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 This happened in my state, about an hour away from where I live. I guess he had been knocking over stores all over the metropolitan area. That's an astounding amount of LEGO to steal and I'm glad he got caught. Quote
Aanchir Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I love how the news article includes a picture of a Pick-A-Brick wall in a news article about complete sets being stolen from a Target store. You'd think they could have done a little more research and found a picture more pertinent to the article. Anyway, it's sad that people are so willing to take advantage of our demand for LEGO sets in order to turn a profit on stolen goods. I wonder where he was planning to resell the sets. eBay? Bricklink? Craigslist? Or a website with less publicity where he might more easily get away with this without suspicion? Quote
BrickArtist Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Anyone we know? Steve We'll just have to see which EB user becomes extremely inactive Quote
Solscud007 Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 I have to say, ballsy very ballsy. I recall Target having problems with UPC bar codes being swapped for a cheaper set. The perp would buy multiple sets. slap a new barcode on the first one and then the cashier will ring up the first one and add the rest via register. He got caught. Quote
dr_spock Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 People will steal anything. At least this one is smart enough not to steal Megablocks. Quote
Baylego Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Wow, that was a bad idea on his part. That would be very ironic if he stole a police station. Quote
Gregorovich Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Wow. But who could blame him ? Seriously though, 10K?! I don't know what was going through his head when he thought he'd ever get away with stealing that much. Thanks, LightningTiger for sharing this. Quote
Mr Meleca Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 that is an amateur close to william swamberg... btw, I bought hundreds of boxes with him. does anyone knows if he stills in jail???? I am looking for his price again Quote
Clone OPatra Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 does anyone knows if he stills in jail???? If you're talking about the guy in the article, he isn't in jail, seeing as the article is entitled "Police Release Man Accused…" I just hope that that last sentence of the article didn't mean that they impounded his car when the LEGO was still in it. They used very ambiguous wording in that sentence. Quote
Mr_Malfoy Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Does the artice say what sets did he specifcally steal? If it was all licensed sets, the prices are so high , I wouldn't blame him for act so desperately. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Ha, that is too funny New slogan "Lego:Worth stealing" Quote
Mr Meleca Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Swanberg (orf swamberg) was arrested 4 or 5 years ago, he sold more than $600k in lego sets... he was a pro!!! Quote
Nightshroud99 Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Wow I had to put that on Facebook, glad he was caught! I wonder how many collectible Minifigures he might have stolen? Quote
bricklayer Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 2 questions: 1)Does he have to give the sets back....and if they are open then what?? 2)Is there lego in Jail......All the users could become inactive if thats the case!! Quote
