Berry Syedow Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Hello all, The name Grauerwal is German, meaning "gray whale" according to babel fish. The name derives from my lack of brown or suitable black pieces for the ship thus forcing me to use gray. So I thought I might as well add a whale's head to the front and a tail for the back. X-D I built the ship in late February, but was dissatisfied with the result so after a month of collecting dust on the shelf I rebuilt the main body of the ship. The rigging and all of the fine touches remained unfinished until a day ago. The galley also includes a set of eight brick built cannons. There are some other details that I would have liked to add such as a crate of cannon balls, a ladder leading up the mast, and a rudder, but are not feasible because of lack of pieces or space on the ship. Starwars4J Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 It's very interesting (in a good way!). I like the design, just one thing I'm curious about, is the gray supposed to be metal, stone, or painted wood? Quote
SuvieD Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I like the look very much. I am confused about the cannons though. Vikings didn't use them, did they? The ship looks great though. It fits the name perfectly and the little details are nice too. It would probably tip over in a strong wind as these types of ships sit high in the water but it has cannons so this isn't for realism anyway right? Cool look ship. Quote
Sir Dillon Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Nice! It's very well built. The one thing that looks strange to me is how tall it is. I think it would look better if it were made shorter, or you extended the hull. But that's just my opinion. I also wonder about the cannons, but since it's a fantasy ship, I guess it works fine. Does it have an interior? Overall, a neat creation. *y* Quote

In either case the hull's material is composed of another tougher material. I like the look very much. I am confused about the cannons though. Heh, yes the ship is a bit tall, and I don't have more than three extension pieces at the moment. You are correct about the cannons. They help add to the fantasy element, however. Nice! Thank you for the comments, guys! Quote
