And that the mountain climber and welders would be.

They know exactly what they are doing, making the popular ones rare. They just cannot say it.

I totally agree. No one can honestly believe they try to make the more popular ones with higher distribution because as a business it would make no financial sense. Take series 13 as an example. Tara Wike mentioned she knew the Hot Dog Man would be popular (albeit more than she anticipated) yet decide to have only 3 per box. Now, we all know people who are not even into LEGO have been hunting high and low just to get the Hot Dog Guy and as a result been buying pack after pack of series 13 to find one (yes not every knows how to feel for them even though it is one of the easiest ones to feel for). LEGO sells more boxes of a series if people are having to keep buying packets to get the really popular figure they want. Making the most popular one rare ensures LEGO sells far more packs. People just think they are unlucky and not found the one they want yet so keep buying. They will keep it that way as it would be silly of them not to.

As we know, there are 3 LEGO films coming soon:

  • Batman LEGO Movie - February 10, 2017
  • Ninjago - September 23, 2017
  • The LEGO Movie Sequel - May 18, 2018

Do you think each of them will have its own CMF Series, like The LEGO Movie?

Posted (edited)

I highly doubt that all 3 will, but maybe one might. And if one does, I doubt it'll be batman. I'll be honest, I don't dig the special themes (with exception to the monster one)

Ninjago for sure. A Batman series? I can't see it happening.

It would suck if all of them get a CMF series.

Especially for 2017: Given the new trend of a licensed series for May each year, 2017 would have no regular numbered series.

Actually, I would think definitely not on Batman - I think there's a reason you didn't see Batman in TLM CMF series - it would count as an action figure and not a building set.

While I wouldn't put anything past TLG, I think Ninjago is way too specific to have it's own series.

That leaves TLM2. I honestly think that's the only real possibility.

I'm not too bothered by them, especially if they are not parts of the regular numbered series (like TLM, Simpsons 1 and 2, Team GB.)

In the UK and other parts of Europe, it has it's own comic with "free" gift every month. And it seems to sell well. It wouldn't surprise me if Ninjago CMFs also sold well. Pocket money toys sold to kids. And bear in mind we do not get the TV shows on mainstream TV.

My sources said Ninjago was coming in September, but it got pushed back. I think Batman is the least likely to get a series because of those licensing stuff, and it doesn't really call for one. I dunno.

A Ninjago CMF series? Or the Movie sets?

Uggh. At least a Ninjago series is more money I can save, but if it's got that many fans, then good for them. I liked the Simpsons, but completely understood how annoyed people who weren't fans were.

  • The LEGO Movie Sequel - May 18, 2018

I would be really surprised if this doesn't get a series. And disappointed.

It's also the only one of the 3 that I would expect to see. And hope for.

I'd actually think all of them had CMF series potential.

I would like to believe that The LEGO Batman™ Movie will be more LEGO Movie than Batman movie, if that makes sense. I'd be surprised if the whole thing took place in Gotham City or something. I find it more probable that Batman will go from realm to realm and stuff like that. There could be lots of characters besides DC heroes/villains. Heck, maybe if it's a prequel then Vitruvius will be in it, alive.

A Ninjago Movie series would be really popular with kids, and would have some good options for army-builders, I should think. I'm somewhat worried about this movie though...I haven't seen the TV series, and I'd have to watch it first if the movie is canon with the TV show (OCD).

I think The LEGO Movie Sequel will undoubtedly get a series. Possibly titled The LEGO Movie Series Sequel :classic:.

Given the amount of sets pumped out for the Lego Movie and the CMF range, I'm sure they'd find enough source material in any movie to make 16 characters. I'm not a fan of the movie but did watch it with my kids. To me, it seemed some of the sets and characters had literally only seconds of screen time.

I would expect it to be a lot like the LEGO Batman™ video game. Set in the same LEGO Batman™ universe. But maybe you're right. That might be cool, but I don't think it's likely.

As you say Batman is unlikely because of the license

I think Ninjago is way too specific to have it's own series.

They made a Monster series, which is specific as well

I'll be honest and come out and say it: I would be very happy if they made a Ninja go minifig wave, but only if they include figures from previous waves. Ninjago has had a very good selection of reusable figures, but the best ones always come in the biggest sets. I want Serpentine generals, That 4 Armed Skeleton from the first wave, a stone warrior w/samurai helmet, Nya, Garmadon (any version), maybe even Krazi, but I don't want to buy the sets they're in. So. If Ninjago gets a minifig wave, I want them to include these "classics".

I don't follow Ninjago or know that much about it, but I really don't see Lego making a CMF theme specifically for it, but that could be because I don't want them to.

I hope they would make The LEGO Movie Sequel series, after a bit of initial resistance, I actually really like the minifigures (not so much the robots).

I'll add Clouse to that list. I liked the minifigure, but had no interest in the set. Although, it also comes with a Titanium Ninja, and that's pretty cool.

Oh definitely Clouse! I didn't add him because I'm seriously contemplating buying the set! I will jump of it goes on discount. Clouse's hair, head, torso and pants are all wonderful!

I actually really liked the serpentine cult wave's figures and moulds, so I may buy several of them if they go on sale. The semi-Aztec weapons, for instance, and the mezoamerican snake decals... I wish Lego would make an Aztec theme, but this is probably the closest we're getting, for a while at least.

Now, a good CMF minifigure would be and Aztec warrior with an actually accurate obsidian blade/club... :look:

Do you think the Shark Suit Guy torso could be reused for the Penguin Suit Guy?

They've never reused a torso before. I say, new torso colour.

Flippers on the otherhand... maybe.
