Hobbes Posted July 28, 2006 Author Posted July 28, 2006 I haven't had parts missing, either, just "wrong" ones. And all with Technic sets, by the way... Quote
natelite Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 like hobbes said, nothing was "missing" they were just plain wrong. like the batmobile rims. Quote
kenji Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 i have never encountered a missing part, a twisted part, a deformed part, mishaped part, miscolored part, bad part, wrong part or plain wrong parts set in my life. i wonder why other people does Quote
captaintau Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 I'd never had a dodgy or missing part until my 2006 Slave 1. One very twisted slopey piece. One 'phone call and they sent it straight away, no problems, lots of apologies. Just finished building my Batwing. One piece missing - a grey technic axel. Would you believe I don't have a spare? This time I've filled in the electronic request things. I'll keep you posted as to success. But to go back to opening sentence, I do wander if quality control isn't what it should be. This is my second in 6 months, never having had one previously. Quote

kenji Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 i have got another possible explanation i live outside the US, hence the LEGO that i buy are mostly the second or thrid batch because they are sold outside the US. therefore for the first batch the collection assembly may have some error, some buyers got caught, reported, and then they fix the problem so later boxes do not have that problem. i generally wait a bit when sets come out Quote

natelite Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 I have never had a warped part. Is this a North America vs Europe thing? Are our boxes packed or quality controlled differently than in Europe? i have had "different parts" issue 3 times now. both robo pod and 7706 mobile defense tank, i got this in white instead of this. now i'm not upset at all since i was still able to complete the model but it is just annoying how they can pack different items into a set instead of the original. if you think that's a small matter how about this? here's the peeron scan of another manual... http://www.peeron.com/scans/7153-1/23 notice anything different? :-D :-| i was able to figure things out but if you got the first set of instructions and you were an 8 y-o kid...how long would it take you to figure out you WEREN'T missing any parts at all? Similar thing happened with my 7900. While that wasn't a problem for me I don't how how a kid would have reacted. Especially since there's no seperate sheet pointing to the wrong part as I've seen in other sets... I do think that quality of the bricks and quality control has strongly decreased, especially since I've seen the brickshelf gallery of 1000steine member Ben which I posted here... :-( But that's a whole different thing, this here's about LEGO Direct ;-) Quote

captaintau Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 It occurs to me that the very fact that LEGO have this automated electronic "missing part" form speaks volumes in itsself Quote
Hobbes Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 Just to "close this up": On Monday I received a 32L Technic axle, a replacement for my coffee-stained 4896 instructions booklet (it has a dog-ear but I'm glad they replaced it), and a replacement for my heavily dog-eared 8421 instructions booklet. With it came a lengthy letter of apology, not just the standard package insert. I "filed" three new, seperate complaints on their website (i.e. three different reference numbers), and they were able to "connect" them and just send me one package. So, the service does work :-) Quote
