Right, I'm going to be in the UK very near a Lego brand store, but without my usual car with me to haul stuff back. I've got nearly all my cabin baggage weight for a plane left free, though...

What physical volume are the bags in the Grand Emporium set like? And are there any large bits not in them (I'd presume a baseplate - even if that did snap in transit, I have many spares!).

I'd be deboxing the bags and dumping the box straight away, it'd never fit in in the box - I did try last time.

If I remember correctly, only the 32 x 32 baseplate and the manuals are not in bags.

Without the box you should have no problems as cabin luggage. I did the same in my suitcase last year when I came back from Chicago.

Have a look at the review for an image of the bags.

Thanks, I'll decide what to do on the day as I've also now got my eye on the Maersk train....

I like independent sets. I dont like modualar buildings because I must joined them together. I like imperial flagship, shuttle adventure, emerald night and maersk train.

The modular buildings are no more or less independent than the trains. Each is a standalone set.

Hey! Take a look at this very funny and lovely vid. At 0:44 (and more spots) you will get a pretty good view over the contents of the set. Good luck! -dB
