are we only allowed to have one thread for a topic in this forum?

Allowed? No you can make many for the same thing. But Admins will delete them as it clogs up the forums and steal needed space for the site. It is also not considered proper form and in some cases it is rude. Not to mention common sense will tell you that having two identical topics at the same time is simply not needed.

However, the admins don't want people going digging in the old posts and reviving them either.

To be safest and most courteous simply check the first few pages for the topic you want to start a new thread for. If you don't see one then feel free. If by chance there is another but it wasn't clearly labeled or something the admins or mods will simply close a duplicate and often times rename a thread to be more clear.

Common sense and respect are the keys. Use them both and life works well. ;-)

I personally don't mind if someone digs up an old thread or two if they have something useful to add, but I get rather annoyed if someone starts bringing up 20 topics and just says stuff like 'cool' or 'what he said^'. |-/
