Hi guys! After recently purchasing a newer computer lately I installed AOE3, I'd played it before, but not on my own Comp. I really like the game, it's a nice addition to the series. So I was wondering anybody else play?

If you haven't heard of AOE, and like RTS I highly recommend it. Go to the official website to download a demo, or learn more about it.

The premise is this "What if" scenario in which 8 European countries are duking it out for the new world in a colonial time period.

Anybody else play?

Yes, I've played all the Age of Empire Series except for the Age of Mythology and enjoyed them quite a bit. I believe Ensemble Studies was bought by Microsoft and then later shut down. But a great strategy game and good online play with AOE III.

After the failure named "Halo Wars" launched, Ensemble was closed down  The problem with it was the fact that they made an RTS for with mostly console appeal, which didn't work out.

I have Age of Mythology, it's really  IMO. Maybe that's because I'm that Medieval/Colonial type. What civilization do you like? I'm either French, or English most of the time.

AOE is my favourite game series ever, along with Diablo  I prefer AOE II and even the first, because I am deeply fond of pre-history, antiquity, classical and medieval times.

AOE III looks great, the mechanics are good, and I especially like the Asian Dynasties expansion and civilizations; but my computer is too weak to support the game and is really slow when we have ships or too many people fighting at once.

My favourite civilizations would be the Japanese, English and Spanish. Although I'm portuguese, the in-game portuguese civilization does not appeal me, although I love the organ gun in action  their accent is kinda funny too.

There is a MOD for the game which allows us to play with most european civilizations in european territory, but I haven't tried it. I think I would prefer that instead of New World maps. Africa should be included too, as it was a highly disputed territory in the past.

Yeah, but not in the time AoE plays in.

I myself own the game and I played it long enough, and I liked the gameplay very much.

I also like the TAD add-on very much, as it brings in some nice new features.

It's sometimes a bit too anachronistical for me, but it still has an appealing design.

I played with every culture a lot, but the ones I most like were the Ottomans, Russians, Germans and Japanese from the add-on.

Yeah AOEII was great. Especially with Conquerors installed. I was always Britain in AOEII, or Spain. The Conquistadors just own, and upgrade Longbowman have ridiculous range.

Yeah, I've heard of that problem. Which is a shame because the ship battles are beautiful. Try putting your view point to an unexplored, or fogged area.

I haven't tried all the Civis, but I found that if you use the french correctly they are awesome. The trick is to take advantage of the military style villagers, upgraing them with green coat, blunderbuss, and the HCS(Home City Shipment) of 'Pioneers'. Then I have them travel in large packs for each resource.

I'll have to try that... Sounds cool.

Yeah, it's sort of a "what if" situation. Which is why I tend to set it up realistically when playing offline. Like if I'm french, then I battle the English on the New England map. While the addition Home-Cities, and strategy in deck construction is great, I miss all the game modes

What about strategies? I like to try and boom, rushers really annoy me. Which is why I love the Caribbean and Amazonia maps.

I really love the Asian teams. being able to produce villagers while you age up is a major bonus, and the monuments you build kick megablocks. The Indian ones, where you can slow down opposing armies, or the Chinese one which consistently builds armies, make late game offensives near unstoppable. The early game can be tough with them though.

I played with almost all the armies, and they all have their interesting quirks, like the natives being able to possess treasure guardians, or the Dutch building villagers with gold. And with the home shipments, a few games with one team gives great advantages. I liked the Russians and the Turks least, they seem cheap and ineffective.

For building up levels, I got into a habit of playing eight team free for alls, so I can wipe out 5-6 of the other teams while they focus on each other. Great game, I've spent way too many hours on it, but at least it's better than TV. :classic:

I hate FFA, to much chaos, and the winner isn't always the best player. I like 1v1, and team matches. What's nice about teams is that there is more tactical coherence involved. Sometimes I like this strategy where you have two military cities(Germany, France, and Spain come to mind) and one Ottoman. The Ottoman player controls all trade posts, and uses all economic shipments. The Ottoman gets 200 villagers, and harvests EVERYTHING. That player funds the other two and builds outposts. That makes this alliance weathly and funded, the only problem is that if the team manages to take out your economic civilization, well, game over

Oh well. I use the free for all to build up levels. Obviously, when it's a human vs. 7 competing computer players, the human will strategize best. Build up your teams in 1v1 if that's your thing.

FFA is a great way to build up levels, that's true. In some ways it's harder to play Vs. the computer. The computer knows whats the best units are to counter other units, which is why winners are usually the player who doesn't train too many of one unit.

I have the original game with the War Chiefs expansion. I do not have Asian Dynasties and never found it for a price I was willing to pay. Now, I don't even see it in stores anymore. :cry_sad:

I really enjoy the game and have leveled up with my favorite civilizations. I really enjoy the Iroquois. I think their cannon is just awesome. Their cavalry and navy are horrible. However, armies of heavily upgraded cannons and tomahawks seem really hard for any computer player to beat.

I think of myself as a boring person to play with because I enjoy turtling. I've seen lots of game forums that hate playing with turtlers.

I am a fan of AoEI, II and that one Star Wars game that uses the same engine. But I never got AoM or AoEIII. Are they any good?

Yeah, the graphics are amazing for an RTS. The newer gaming engine takes getting used too, but its amazing.

When I don't have much time I sometimes use cheats. I am not dure if they work on mulitiplayer but the monster truck is so much fun (it kills all enemy that it runs over  )

Cheats are

tuck tuck tuck: monster truck

Medium rare please: 10 000 food

Nova & orion: 10 000 experience points

Speed always wins: Actions for all teams are super fast

I pefer not to cheat if I have the time but the save system takes a lot of time to save

Best out of all the Age of Empires was III. I upgraded Warchiefs and Asian Dynasties. Love the Brits for rush and love the Dutch for Turtle!

Don't play online as much as I used to but actually started playing again last week.

I'll add my username to the first post.

I'll have to add my user name when I switch my internet provider. Our current connection is too slow to play online game.

Pm me if you wanna hop into a match together. Either AoeIII or Warchiefs.

Are you willing to share your username? A MOD or Fellow could edit the first post.

Figured I would give this thread a bump as I may have some time after next weekend, after the 12th. Of course, once my preordered copy of SW:TOR is released, I'm sure I'll vanish for a week or so with that...

Always looking for teammates for some 5v3 comp hard!
