Runamuck Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Usually I’m not the one who makes vigs, I’m more of a larger table setup fan, but I got the idea for this one after getting some new pieces. I hope someone remembers the unlucky cabbage merchant that became a bit of a running gag though out the series. I thought those green heads would make some fine cabbages. It only took a handful of minutes to build. Quote
Aanchir Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 That face works perfectly for the cabbage merchant! At least, in a vignette like this. In a larger model having a yellow face next to a bunch of fleshies could look unusual. What color are those minifig heads you used for the cabbages-- regular green or bright green? Other models like the Market Street have used bright green Exo-Force hair as cabbages or lettuce, but I'm not sure if you have any of that (or whether it would even work for this vignette). Quote

I sadly don't own the two Avatar sets that actually exist, so I can't mix flesh and yellow, although I probably wouldn't mind doing so. I believe the heads are bright green, the same colour as apples. I don't have any green Exo-Force hair, but I was aware of it being used for lettuce. Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 Excellent little vig 'runamuck', his cart is broken.....blame the Fire Nation ! Brick On ! Quote
Captain Blockbeard Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 The moment I saw the "My Cabbages!" topic title, I knew exactly what I would be greeted with. It's a great little scene based on an excellent animated series. I hope to see more Avatar vignettes from you in the future. Quote
Oky Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Hehe, very nice. There have been several cabbage merchant MOCs already (mostly for Hinckley's Avatar raffle from a while back), but I never get tired of them. The vignette does look very simple, but the head of the merchant is very fitting and is what makes this creation so great. I'd bricklink it right now if it wasn't yellow. I was lucky enough to get most of the Avatar figs from bricklink for reasonable prices, and I just ordered Zuko today (for $21, but hey, it's ZUKO! ). I hope to see more Avatar MOCs from you, even if you don't have the figs! Quote
user Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 (for $21, but hey, it's ZUKO! ) Twenty one dollars?!?!?! That's insane! I had no idea the figs were that expensive. Nice vig though, a little more advanced techniques would make it better but it's perfectly how it is now. Quote
Oky Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Yeah, and it wasn't even the whole fig, just the head and armor, with the head alone being $20. The complete fig costs between 30 and 50 dollars nowadays. By the way, has anyone noticed that the head of the Joshamee Gibbs fig from POTC is perfect for a purist Iroh? Quote

Oh boy, with those prices I doubt that I’ll ever get the set though a trade. As for advanced techniques, I have little experience with them, and I think that most of my collection is a little outdated for some of the more advanced techniques. I’ll see if I can come up with some ideas for further MOC’s. Quote
Oky Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Uh, more MOC? I always thought that Avatar MOC’s were few and far between, I would like to see those. Indeed, that's why I said we need more. I myself contributed three so far (one, two, three) and as you can see only one of them uses the official figs, so I'm sure you can come up with something too. And don't worry about advanced techniques, they will come to you as your collection and experience grows. So get mocing! Yip yip! Quote
Runamuck Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 Maybe I should have said this a little earlier, but thanks for the links. I'll see what I can do about ideas and techniques. Quote
supersympa Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 I am watching Avatar right now with my son, and I just watched a couple of episodes with that poor guy and his carbages! hahah thanks for making me laugh! Quote
Captain Bayonet Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Nice small MOC. Nice usage of green heads as cabbage. Well done. Keep on Brickin' ~Bayonet Quote
