Version 1.1 is on page 2

Hi,

Been lurking for a bit, but finally decided to come out of the shadows now that I have my first post-dark ages MOC. Been snapping up minifigs and sets like crazy but needed something to keep my 'rare' minifigs. Decided the youtube vid might be best.

minifig display

Comments and criticism more than welcome, but bear in mind I'm a complete noob.

future enhancements will be to add a PF motor and lights.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Yeah, originally I wanted 360 degrees of trans pieces, but couldn't find any solution on bricklink I was happy with. I figured if I couldn't do that the next best thing was to have the figures rotate 360. I was hoping to pull off a monument/museum type look. Can't tell it from the video too well, but I was hoping the tiled steps would remind people of large granite/marble monuments.

As of right now I don't have plans to build one for all my minifigs, but that would be cool. I may build another one for the Cloud City figs when I get them though.

I already have a few ideas for improvements, which include a PF motor (may need a worm gear to slow it down), some lighting (not sure on this one, haven't seen the PF lights IRL so I'm not sure how bright they are), possibly tile the roof section or add some other detailing (not too much though, the minifigs are supposed to be the focal point).

I'll try to post some pictures at different angles later on.

Thanks Again!

what makes the Celebration Dictionary Luke so special?

what makes the Celebration Dictionary Luke so special?

Its a unique fig, it only appears in this book, and it look pretty.

Nothing too much really. I needed another fig to put there and like Mr Man said:

"Its a unique fig, it only appears in this book, and it look pretty."

Maybe the new giveaway fig that will be coming next month will take his place.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Well as far as minifigs exclusive to one product that isn't a set*, the Celebration Luke fits the bill. You could also use the exclusive 'fig from the upcoming book (Character Encyclopedia?).

*Yes, the Chrome Vader and 3PO might have been in sets, but since you didn't know if you'd get one that doesn't really count.

R2-KT would fit right in as well...

Ha ha, it would be sweet to find something like that, but I won't hold my breath. Right now I'll be happy with a CC Boba Fett.

Now this, is a really good way to store minifigures! I may need to try one myself. Do you mind?

Not at all. I'm sure you can probably improve on my design even. I do have a .lxf file for it as well if anyone is interested.

I'd like to see it if it's not too much of a bother. :classic:

No problem, but what is the best method? I'm new here and don't want to misstep. Is it better to email, or what?

Thanks.

Wow, I totally forgot I had one of those from before my dark ages. I've added the .lxf file under my user name: Clanure.

You have some collection! Thanks for the .lxf file. I do like what you've built there.

Excellent job on this unique and ingenious rotating minifig display stands Clanure! I'm certainly looking forward for the future PF version of this one. The only thing I could suggest probably is spicing up the all-white design with some color variation or adding some highlights/details.

Here's version 1.1

It's really more of a proof of concept. I still need to attach the motor to the base and make a few other modifications I have in mind, but they are going to take a bricklink order so I thought I'd at least post this. It may also need one more reduction in speed. I'm still thinking on that one.

Here are some still shots:

Once again, comments and criticisms are more than welcome.

KielDaMan, Any suggestions on how to spice it up? I agree it needs something, but I don't want it to be too much.

Thanks!

Looks very nice. I agree that it spins a little too fast for my tastes. Maybe a shot of the interior workings could allow the Technic guys here to help you with that. (unless of course, you don't want to give away your secrets, which as an MOCer I would totally understand)

Looking good Clanure, I kinda expected the relatively fast rotation of the PF motor, and I'm not much of a Technic expert so I have no idea how to make the rotation slower.

I understand how you want to be conservative so that the details won't distract much the minifig display themselves, but maybe you could put some curved slopes at the corners/sides to slightly tone down the overall blocky feel of the display? How about putting some ribbed bricks and/or vertical tiles-on-headlight bricks at the base of the display for some surface variation? Did you also consider putting lighting inside? (probably light bricks at the top). These are just some minor suggestions which I think ain't too much but will improve the aesthetics of the display. Of course you could always play around with some of your own techniques to spice-up it up your way.
