Countdown Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 (edited) Hi Technic fans! You know when you're bored because you're waiting for some crucial BL orders to come in and you're stuck? Well, here's the result: The Mini-version of the 8421-XS Functions: All-wheel steering via HOG at back Outriggers via HOG at back Superstructure rotation via HOG at back Boom elevation via LA on turret Boom extension via HOG on boom Winch on turret Crane deploying Fully deployed comparison with Designer Han's XXL crane (the project on hold for BL order) All packed-up and ready to leave Anyway, it's always fun to do mini-projects in between large ones. I've discovered that I really enjoy building in mini-scale. Brickshelf Gallery My previous mini: 8045 mini-xl MOD Nonetheless, cranes are fun to build, next up a "midi-scale" 8421 with these tires:tire 37x18R Edited April 12, 2011 by Countdown Quote

Bricktrain Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Thanks for resizing the pics, it was taking too long to load due to the size. Looks good nice and compact. Very hard to build in small sizes, like I was asked if I had experience in driving a small excavator, as the employer says anyone can drive a big one, if you can make it work in small projects then big ones will be easy. No prob, I did'nt realize the resolution of the pics. You're right about the driving big excavators, the smaller ones are much more tricky to master; with large ones, you just just break everything if you're not careful, too much power!!! Quote
Fuzzylegobricks Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I like the model a lot, the only thing that seems a little off is the wheels to me because they look a little too small for the mini version. Quote
bord4kop Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Very nice! Like it a lot  Such a lot of functions in yet such a small thingy Quote

I don't think that the wheels are too small, but more that the whole crane is too big!! I did'nt find the proper tire/wheel combination for this scale. It lies between these and these. I've just order the latter ones on BL. So stay tuned for the next iteration. Quote
