ME-models metal track

So I went on railbricks tonight and I saw one the best piece's of track work ever, so I then watched the videos and I came upon a conclusion. I'm very 'purist' and protective about lego I hate cheap imotation, mega blocks etc and I feel when building something out of Lego everything and including the bits you dont see should be Lego. That said but when I come to my other hobby of model railways I use all different manufatuerers because I like to have the best qaulitiy for each component and so I feel in this case I can justify it to myself by using it with Lego Because the qauility speaks for itself and the option of different sized curves is a winner!.

Is anyone else convinced? I know I'am, what do you think

I'm a "purist" just like you say, but I would make an exception for something that is meant to complement the TLG products offer, such as these rails by ME or stuff made by BrickForge or BigBenBricks, rather than being competitors.

I haven't thought about ME rails yet tho... I'm not in need of metal rails per-se, since I don't use 9V, but I'd certainly dig the new geometries.

I agree with you. Certain specialty items that LEGO won't make for whatever reason are probably better done by small "back-yard" companies. BigBenBricks (steam loco wheels in 4 sizes) and BrickArms (military weapons) come to mind. Certain economic factors make it such that small fringe markets are not profitable for large companies with big overheads (like LEGO) to service but the smaller companies can make a decent living catering to these markets. They don't really 'replace' LEGO but rather compliment it. I have no trouble supporting them.

I have some ME-Track received for reviewing w.r.t Narrow Gauge - Indiana Jones track. The quality us excellent, the colours (brown / blue grey) almost spot on, the ease of assembly is good, and apart from the slightly different metal rail colours, you would not know you are running on non-Lego (purist) track.

Whilst I believe that 100% Lego should be used for most things, there is almost nothing you cannot do without a bit of ingenuity - there will always be some exceptions and metal rails seems to be one of them. ME-Models have filled this gap with something unique, and worthy, just like Big Bens Wheels.
