Capt.JohnPaul Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Avast! I realized that my bluecoat friends need to hustle in working in the dry docks. So I made this plan first and wondering if I should build it physically. (f course I will!) If anything seems weird or off, please say! And if something is missing, say! But I'm most likely though already have the bricks and use them so I don't have to worry about buying every brick that I already have. Capt.JohnPaul Quote
Tazmaniac Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 A good start! looks like you need some yard arms, access to the gun deck, a captains cabin, and a ladder on the side (close to the middle). could also add a capstan and catheads. But these are not things you'll find on an official LEGO set so it depends on what you want on it. Maybe work on the line as it looks very flat and your stern and bow should not be wider that the mid-sections IMO. Looking forward to see this come to life in bricks Quote

Yes, looks like I'm going to need yardarms! (is it yadarms because I've also just heard yards. ) 2. If you look in the last pic, at the front of the ship, you can't see, but there is a ladder to have aces to the g-deck 3. I don't recall brigs having captain's cabins. But if so, it would be small and for this ship, under the top deck. 4. How does the line look flat? I used sloped pieces, a good alternative to CGH/CBH's technique. (stop changing names!! ) Capt.JohnPaul Quote
Tazmaniac Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Not the best pic but you can see the stern is a little higher to accomidate the cabin...... I'm not 100% sure they had them but then where does the captain sleep other wise? The curve I'm refering to is from the stern to bow not the water line to deck. Here's my brig feel free to steal anything from it, though it's far from perfect and in need of an update. Quote
KotZ Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I like it so far, a bit small though, but I prefer big warships And I agree with TazManiac, some yardarms might help it look better. I say, though, that you should maybe make the interior a bit more accessible, and maybe raise the sides on the deck by one or two plates, and maybe have some gaps every stud or so. And too me, it looks a little short for that height of a deck, but maybe that's just me or the angles you took the stills from the screen at. Nice job! Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 Got it Taz, got confused on what you were meaning. Though I'm not sure how good I am at doing the "curve" fro stern to bow, tried doing curves in LDD, not so well. I like the length and height so I will probably keep it. Thanks. I've add up the price for some of the parts. (really just necessities or stuff to make it pretty ) : Hull pieces ≈ $24 Slope 2x2x2 pieces pg. 2≈ $4 Slope 2x1x2 pg. 2 ≈ $2.56 Flag-gun ports pg. 1 ≈ $0.80 Pg. 5 6x16 plates = $23.70 TOTAL: $55.06 Quote
Tazmaniac Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 To get that curve you just need to use plates to slowly drop and raise the hight of the red, black and brown lines. If you plate up the sides of the hull sections (in brown) then the parts you have already used just go back on top but have a slight curve ..... does that make sense? Look at how CGH does it in his "build a frigate" thread, it can be seen on my brig (if you click that pic up there you get the whole stream with a few more pics). Good luck and have fun!! Quote

So your pretty much saying to make certain parts taller? Quote
Tazmaniac Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I guess it would come across that way, sorry. If you loose the red bricks below your sloped bricks and replace them with plate you hight shouldn't change too much.By using plates you can utilise the jumper technique to give the mid sections some more width.....just an idea.
