Out of Sight Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 While waiting for parts from Bricklink for my previous MOC that I constructd on LDD Universe mode, I decided to make a bus..a huge one, a modern Euro-style 6 x 2 intercity coach. Design was inspired by the Scania Irizar bus, with that hump on the front. It aids aerodynamic efficiency as I had read earlier, much like a whale, despite its huge frontal shape, it can carve underwater with ease. I guess hydrodynamic and aerodynamic works almost within the same principle. To make the hump more useful, I added grilled 1x2 bricks to suggest the condensor air inlets for the overhead air-con system. I also utilized these for the engine compartment in the rear of the bus. Here goes nothing..comments and suggestions are welcome! Quote
Fuzzylegobricks Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Very well done! And the hump is good too. i'm a whale mwaaaaaarrr. Do you plan on Brick building this? I think you should. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 This bus looks really great, I love that aerodynamic hump and the overall baby blue color scheme. Nice work and hope to see this in real brickbuild. Quote
Out of Sight Posted March 29, 2011 Author Posted March 29, 2011 Yes, I plan on building this in real bricks But since I'm relatively 'new' to Lego, I've just got back within 4 months after almost 20 years of Lego absensce, I need your opinions on this model. The biggest problem with this model is, I don't know whether I could acquire the bricks with specific colors. This blue and light blue scheme are only available on certain types of bricks. I might need to alter the color scheme for a more common, white, blue red, green, yellow, etc. I'll do that a little later. Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Excellent LDD creation and great to hear it will be come brick-built in the long run ! Brick On LDD On 'Out of Sight' ! Quote
Sabrien Reed Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I love it! You've reminded me to use LDD again too. (I want to build a scale model of my home, but am waiting for the bricks to arrive, so I could use LDD in the mean time) How well do you think the bus will go round corners? The new 6-wide City vehicles like the Caravan and Prisoner Transport don't turn too easily and they are probably one third of the length of this. Quote
Jargo Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) Interesting. regular blue would look just as good. reverse the colours so you can have regular blue wheel arches which are available. tempered with medium blue and grey it'll still have a similar impact, just a bit bolder. Yeah, I hadn't thought about that...probably because all my vehicles are displayed on a shelf instead of Lego road plates. I suspect it'll cause a serious traffic jam, not to mention the occasional curb hopping while clipping by-standers But I made the bus this long because I had a real life 40" long bus in mind, while comparing it with the size of the minifig, assuming that it's 5'7"- 6' tall You should see the length of my '150 tonnes' heavy haulage MOC that I'm currently building with real bricks on my bench. That ought to give the local "Lego City traffic authority" some real bangin' on the noggin, around 60 stud long, extendable up to 70 to cater different load lengths. It's accompanied by a classic 4-wide escort vehicles, which I designed in LDD Universe too. Quote
Bayou Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) Very nice coach !! I see a door near the driver, don't you find a solution to avoid this door ? Usually the driver uses the main passenger door ... More of this, there is generally a second door near the middle of the coach...did you already try to put them ? (I said that, because sometimes it's impossible to be real and nice) Edited March 29, 2011 by Bayou Quote
