Hi

I have a question:

When is LDD/PAB updated?

We are in dire need of more parts, especially vehicle bases, food, animals, accessories, and MINIFIGURES

I have heard it may be in April: WHEN IN APRIL?

Thanks

That is one good question. Can I just ask where you heard it would be out in April? I haven't heard a thing.

Here:

A LEGO store calendar for April indicated that the Hero Factory "Hero Recon Team" program by LEGO DesignByMe would launch on April 4th. So I would wager that all the relevant DesignByMe and Pick-A-Brick updates will happen around that time. Shouldn't be too long a wait, although it might be a good idea to check if there's any parts in the current Pick-A-Brick selection that you want in case parts get removed in the update.

Although I am not a huge fan of Bionicle/Hero Factory, I am kinda curious as to what the Recon Team is. I guess time will tell, thanks for the info Brickdoctor!

We now have the date of 4/4/2011 confirmed as the date of the DbM/PAB update, based on this news article.

Here's what we know so far about Hero Recon Team: it's an LDD-like function run by DbM that allows you to design and build your own Hero Factory hero. It's based on this year's new Hero Factory building system. Most of the parts are ones that exist in other sets. However, one piece is supposedly exclusive to the program-- a standard chest piece co-injected (blended) with black and silver plastic.

It uses a different interface than LDD, which may be entirely web-based. Here are some images of the interface, taken from a preview video on the Hero Factory website. Note that some of the parts-- like minifigure axes-- do not normally appear in Hero Factory sets. I'm hoping that the next LDD update will include the new Hero Factory parts, since this gives evidence that they have already been rendered with the necessary connection points.

If you find you like the parts at all, but don't want to buy any sets from the theme (because let's face it; some of the parts are still extremely specialized, even if others are versatile), Hero Factory parts will also be available in LEGO Store Pick-A-Brick bins according to an April LEGO Store event calendar. I suspect that, since PAB and DbM parts you order online are packed in the same facility, they will also be available in the online PAB as well. So I encourage you to explore the uses of the new parts even if you don't care about the theme itself.

The last two years the DbM palette has been updated early April, so its no surprise if it is done the same time this year as well.

All the same I think I'm going to load LDD offline until someone here confirms a palette update - otherwise the suspense will kill me

Thanks for the info. I didn't know there was that much info on the program already. Now, if only we could get some news for LDD5...

LDD Update

This confirms that there will be an update soon. At first, all it looked like to me is a brick palette change, but when they mention "major changes," I can't help but wonder what they have in store for us.

Tomorrow's the day. Cross your fingers for the stuff you want...

Last time, did they update at midnight Eastern Time? 'Cause S@H changes at that time in the US, and that time is about 5 minutes away. EDIT: Nope, just checked and no update so far.

Excellent find Lalror.

Strange that they only give people one week to finish their designs and order from the old palette! That's kind of short, isn't it?

Well i downloaded the update today and doesnt seem to be much of anything added in LU mode. I did notice they added an elephant head and took away a few heads of the minifig section like all the Star Wars heads Ewok,Boosk etc. and they also added some decorations for the hips and legs. There are a few more odds and ends missing as well.

The first differnce I saw, wasin the startscreen; LDD CREATOR IS GONE! *oh2*

There is also a new category in the partsbox, only in the design by me mode.

Seems to be some new bugs with this update as well. Part #2587 Minifig armor no longer fits with the torso. Also #2594 Castle Visor no longer fits on the #30124 Crash Helmet. Might need to make a new thread for bugs for this latest update.
