Hi there. I'm new here, as you can see from my post count.

I'm in the middle of a project to build a decent town for my children (and me) to play with, and I've finally managed to amass enough yellow bricks to build a supermarket, inspired by the Morrisons near where we live.

The cash machines and sliding doors are the stars of this photo.

The doors open by pulling on the overhanging bricks.

I need to stock all the shelves, but have run out of suitable Lego parts and ideas to make the items look different to each other. Suggestions would be very appreciated.

Hello!

A real good start :) You could fill your supermarket with whatever you see around in the real one: groceries, fish in a tank or on ice, bottles of drink (may i suggest to use some of those cups turned upside down on a round 1x1 brick as a bottle) a separate corner for the bakery, an isle for the salads, children's corner etc :)

I must say the usage of lime green looks a bit awkward when the rest of the store is yellow, but overall it's looking nice so far nonetheless.

I was sure this was a Tesco!

The cash machines and sliding doors are great, but I really like the cashier design, with the caschier booths. What about adding something like a newstand in front of them?

Nice supermarket -- I'm sure you and the kids are going to have a whole lot of fun!

Thanks for the encouraging comments and ideas. Here's a few responses:

The lime green was meant to show this was the fresh fruit and veg area, but I admit it looks out of place, so I will probably change that.

There is not going to be a roof because it gets in the way of play - all my MOCs from my youth were topless and I guess I just remained a topless fan since then ;-)

When I have enough tile pieces, I will tile the floor, as that will look much better.

Anyone got ideas for baskets or a shopping trolley?

Looks good, I like the way you built the sliding doors, and the ATM at the side. For suggestions, tiling the floor would greatly improve the overall aesthetic of this build, and some wall patterns or strips will also be a welcome addition. Something like this (CorneliusMurdock's MOC), it's a smaller build, but you'll get my point. Hope to see some improvements on this one soon, but so far this is already a good start.

A city indeed needs a supermarket. And this is a great start.

What I immediately noticed is that the ATM/cash machines are positioned a little too high. The display is four bricks up - which is relatively high for a five bricks high minifig. You can eventually put the mailboxes used on a plate on the floor. If you don't plan to put other base plates right next to the supermarket, you can also put them directly on the floor.

The lime green was meant to show this was the fresh fruit and veg area, but I admit it looks out of place, so I will probably change that.

I actually like the lime green in the fruits/veg area. It kind of breaks all the yellow. And lime green and yellow are two colours close to each other, so they fit each other.

What about the trolley from 7567 Traveller?

EDIT: BTW, I really like the use of M-Tron minifigs for the staff. Well thought!

Well done so far 'Sabrien Reed', oh, don't worry about the lime green - keep for fruit and veg.......Woolworths in Oz main colour is green !

How about a bakery or service deli ?

Tiling the floor might improve the overall look, but use some 1x2 tiles with one stud on them in handy positions around the store for minifig posing !

Signage too might help and I understand no roof, as you have explained it's for playing not displaying ! (my designs are for both)

Great work 'Sabrien Reed' and Brick On !

The security guard is wearing a crash Helmet!!! You must live in a rough part of the country!!!

Many great suggestions, so far... visit your morrisons branch as well and keep your eyes peeled for the more unobvious details? CCTV, Lights, clothing section, advertising boards....?

Great Job so far!

That's really cool, you could use the Traveller's trolley with the corner pieces on which is probably the most functional option as it's for you and your kids, or for a more aestheticly pleasing and accurate one how about this. I just typed in 'lego trolley' on google and found it. :classic:

Lovely super market, looking forward to some updates

I really like this. It would fit in perfectly with any classic town sets, as it uses great bright colours. The details are great, especially the sliding doors. It looks a bit empty inside, but hopefully you'll fill it up. This has inspired me to plan my own supermarket, but due to my small collection it most likely won't get built. Thanks for sharing, and well done!
