Although only if there defence is greatly improved from how they played against Sweden (WHo are out now :-P ) I'm interested to see if England will be able to play effectively to this new formation, IMO it seems a lot better but I'm worried that the squad may not be used to it yet. Anyway, Kick off at 4.00pm, winner of this match play either Holland or Portugual in the quarter finals. This is a good opertunity for England (or Holland) to get revenge for Euro04. Here's hoping it will be a good game unlike most of the recent England ones. And before I leave COME ON ENGLAND Quote

Lampard and Gerard are supposed to run the flanks all the time. they're not doing that, consequently, they do not support Rooney, who's all alone at the front and hardly sees any ball. Behind him becks is supposed to be support him as well, but he's no where to be seen. So what do you get? a game that doesn't move at all, an England team that doesn't really create chances but wins because of Becks fenomenal kick. That isn't surprising, though, because it doesn't require all the others to run 100 meters... send these poor boys home, please, they're tired... Quote
Vader Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I have to disagree about the tiredness of the england team sne, i think that the problem lies with the system that there asked to play. Both Gerrard and Lampard play an attacking midfield postion for there club sides and both do it superbly but when they play for england gerrard in particular is asked in most games to play the holding midfield postion. This does not allow us to get the best out of a player that scored over 20 goals last season and some were spectacular and you can see by gerrards body language alone that hes unhappy with it, this in turn seems to effect lampard also as you can see hes not happy either due to the fact that he can see gerrards un easyness. The formation that we played yesterday was supposed to release both gerrard and lampard to attack more and in the second half you could see this starting to happen, people need to remember that this is the first game that weve played this formation and its not a formation thats widley used at our club levels either so its going to take longer than 90mins to get used to it. The funny thing is that even though weve had a great deal of stick (some of it rightly so) weve still had one of the best starts win wise since 1982. So its Portugal next for us and i expect a bloody hard game from them, hopefully with 2 of there best midfielders suspended we might be able to win and get to the semi's.................then its just a small matter of beating probably Brazil X-O X-D :-D Quote

Rumor has it that hes the reason behind Van Nistolroys troubles at Man Utd and the 2 have according to reports had a few fights in the last few months, this makes me wonder if Van Nis sent word to the other dutch players to go in hard on ronaldo.
