Hello Eurobricks!

This is my first post in this forum and I'd love to hear your opinion - and forgive me if I may come across a bit shameless here.

Cheeky Monkeys is a toyshop near Brighton. I'm one of the few independants in the area to stock LEGO. This is brilliant on so many levels, including living my childhood dream of being allowed to play with these little bricks all day.

One thing I'm really keen to do is bridge the gap between LEGO for kids and adults.

I'm working on a sculpture and will soon launch a LEGO building competition (in a similar vein to the Minifigure scene competition on this site). I've also started selling framed vintage figures (see the online shop www.cheeky-monkeys.me.uk).

Has nayone got any other bright ideas?

What sets would you, as (I'd imagine) an adult like to buy?

Any feedback on the website would also be brilliant.

Cheers!

I am all for supporting independent retailers, I have two shops near me. One has a high mark up for Lego, the other sells at Shop @ Home prices (very occasionally 25-50p more), I tend to buy from that one more (she also has a better selection). Looking at your site I can only find two sets, both of which have a high mark up. I think some of the pictures you have on the site could have better lighting, as some look a bit dull to me.

If you are asking what stock would appeal to AFOL, then I would suggest Kingdoms, as I hardly ever see it in chain toy stores (I bought most of mine from Lego). Castle sold really well in the shop near me, although I was told it was difficult to get more when they needed it. If you are asking how to get more involvement from AFOL near you then perhaps see if their is a LUG nearby, and see if you could put on events that would involve them? You might be in a difficult location though as I think Brighton has a Lego Shop, which might effect you.

The framed minfigures are a nice idea, but for me would be to expensive, I think most AFOL if they wanted one could DIY it much cheaper.

Hi Mikey,

Thanks for your response and taking the time to look at the website.

Kingdoms would be a good idea - I used to absolutely love the Wolf People sets. Atlantis has been suggested in the past (the shop looks directly over the sea) as has Star Wars. I have more of a range in the shop - mostly the Creator series. I opted for this as it offers the best value for money. I try and keep my prices as competitive as possible - Most of my LEGO is actually cheaper than in WH Smiths. I also stock a selection of the LEGO games which do well.

There is a LEGO shop in Brighton but I have found that most of my customers would rather avoid going into town, particularly at the busier times such as weekends.

Regarding the frames, these are quite new items to the range. I will be releasing more soon which should cost less (i.e. City minifigures, Pirates, Space) as well as more speicalist lines such as Star Wars and Harry Potter.

Cheers!

How would I found out about local LUGs?

...you do. :sceptic: We do say in the site rules that people shouldn't join just to advertise, so please keep that in mind. Also, please don't create topics with useless subjects. I will move this topic to community and rename the topic. "Any ideas....?" :sceptic:

Now that I've got that out of the way, welcome to EB!
