Artifex Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Guys, this thread is devoted to the victims and families of all the people in the disasters in Japan and Brazil. For those of you who do not yet know what happened, take a look here (CNN [English language]) and here (RBS, Portuguese language, but the pics speak for themselves). My thoughts and prayers are with you. I wish I knew what else to say, but I'm speechless. All the best, Gustavo Quote
def Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 def is alright, his family is alright.... For good info about the tsunami, check the wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Sendai_earthquake_and_tsunami It's not the worst tsunami ever, but it is about the worst earthquake the country has ever had. I have a few friends around the region worst hit, Sendai and Iwate, and they were shaken but safe. It's going to take a few days to figure out all that's gone wrong. We can be thankful that we live in the modern era, and building regulations in Japan are stringent at this point, and the country is about as earthquake-proof as you can while still having high-rise buildings. Compared to the Kanto quake near 100 years ago which took over 100,000 lives in the disaster after. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Kanto_Earthquake) So, it's a tragedy, but nothing as horrible as what happened in Haiti before, where the earthquake was smaller, but the damage far far greater. My heart goes out to those in trouble though. My friend was away from his wife, and had no phone connections for hours, it would be hard not to panic. The staff at my work place spent much of the afternoon trying to get in touch with people. Crazy day. Quote
Niku Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I hope for a quick recovery for Japan and Brazil, and best wishes to all their habitants. Expecting all euro-brickers and their families in those countries are safe. Quote
Big Cam Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Good to hear def, I just logged on to eurobricks and was going to pm you, your the only one in japan that I know. God speed to everyone affected. Quote
MetroiD Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Good to know you're safe def! I do hope that our friends in those corners of the world are safe and sound... My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone out there. Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 First, New Zealand, now this....it's good to know 'def' is okay, but sadly for many families in the likes of northern Japan, not so okay. Watching the tragic events, the walls of water contains cars, trucks, buildings and sadly, people......I don't how much more our planet can take from within. I feel all our hopes and prays from whoever one chooses to prey to are with those at the moment who's lives have been ruined by mothernature. Keep on remembering....keep on praying. Quote
pedro Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Our friends have recently returned to Japan with thier 2 young children. Have sent messages by mail and facebook... just hope they're all safe. Quote
ZO6 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 My thoughts go out to all those affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Best wishes to all. Glad to hear you're fine too, Def. Quote
prateek Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Thoughts go out to everyone affected. It was surprising to see the earthquake was so big, but it's nice to see Japan was ready for it. Quote
BrickArtist Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I've seen some of the videos, it's so catastrophic. I hope the best for Japan, and the members of our community. Quote
Ratshot Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 (edited) When I heard about this on the news yesterday I wondered if you were in the affected region Def. Glad your all right I hope Japan can recover quickly. Edited March 12, 2011 by Ratshot Quote
TheDesuComplex Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I heard about it as it happened (through TinierMe), and I was so shocked and devastated. It seems almost everyone there is in Mourning. I'm actually a bit saddened to see not as many people pay attention here. My hope and prayers go out to all those affected by this. It's nice to see that you are alright Def. I just hope Jedd the Jedi is okay too, as he's vacationing in Japan (and taking some good pics with the CMS3 Samurai!) currently. Quote
3D LEGO Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I would like to add my condolences to the Japanese People but I also feel that I should let my hands speak for me with this little memorial I drew today: 3D LEGO Quote
Abu Dun Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 My condolences to all japanese and brazilian members of Eurobricks and their whole people in general, I hope you'll manage to overcome these natural disasters as fast as possible. In the case of Japan, I also hope that you won't suffer a worst-case-scenario in the nuclear plant that's all over the media right now. And I'm surprised to hear that Brazil got hit by something similar, since there's nothing to be heard of this in the german news whatsoever, they're only covering the situation in Japan and the pacific region in general Quote
MetroiD Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 3D LEGO, I hope you don't mind I've blogged your drawing. I felt it would be only appropriate to write something about the people of Japan and the rough times they are going through. I sincerely hope the Fukushima blast won't have any (more) serious consequences... Quote
Oky Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Best wishes from me as well! We feel for you guys. Quote
Capt.JohnPaul Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) Very sad, when I heard the news I immediately thought of 'def'. I sure hope everyone's okay. But I'm afraid the worst is yet to come, as I heard one of Japan's largest nuclear plants is having a catastrophic meltdown and the core reactor is over heating and there has been an explosion and radiation leak. NEWS Capt.JohnPaul EDIT: The site changes, so check fast!!! Edited March 13, 2011 by Capt.JohnPaul Quote
dragunov Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Best wishes to everyone affected, not just the FOL's I hope the nuclear plants are sorted, and the people safe. Please tell me if the UN are helping, I've heard Peacekeepers have been sent. I express sad feelings as I have japanese ancestry from hundereds of years ago. 日本のみんなに幸運を祈る。 Quote
def Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Here is the information for the Japanese Red Cross, if you're feeling charitable. Personally, I haven't donated to charities much before, but I'm going to give $100 or so. Even $10 would make a difference if lots of people gave. A lot of work is needed to clean up the Tohoku region. Japanese Red Cross http://www.jrc.or.jp/english/relief/l4/Vcms4_00002070.html Google's crisis response, which offers other donation options. http://www.google.com/intl/en/crisisresponse/japanquake2011.html Quote
