Bear with me here...

So, after getting my box'o figures out last night to get it sorted out, I did some serious looking at my Crownies. I was struck by how, well, boring they look. Bley and dark blues is just so...drab. I then compared them to my new Lion Knights. Red and Bley is kinda dull, but better than the Crownies. I then compared both of these factions to my (old) Dragon Knights and my Orcs. The old Dragon knights have the most exciting pallet of them all. Reds, blues and yellow, with black accents? Yes, please!

So, what Castle faction is the most boring for you guys?

I think the Dwarfs are more boring, because of their legs make them unable to do cool poses and whatnot. And their beards cover their torsos which can be a good or bad thing. But in this case it blocks most of the detail of the torso and the head. Wish their had shorter beards as a variation.

I beg to differ: Although they lack "brightness" on an overall scale, the combination of darker and lighter hues of blue, combined with grey (silver!) and gold accents emanates an aura of regality rarely matched by other factions. Especially included their successors, the new current lion knights!

And this is only speaking, taking their out-of-the-box forms: I updated my crownies, my most numerous faction by the way, with additional sparkles of red and white (via plumes) and individualised every mounted knight so far, including one "desert adventurer" and the mandatory "black knight" into the parade. I even went a little overboard and made an "iron-man-knight" by combining a KK2 King-Mathias' set of arms and the according hip part with leftover material from the others. And the additional shade of blue looks so obviously yet comfortably out of place (perfect for a "super-hero-costume" ;-P ) that it's beautiful again.

Next project would be to get me some of Kingdom's lion-factions knights and swap hips and legs with my crownies to spruce them up even more, while the lions do get some treatment in form of added browns and black. Works for me!

Short: Whenever such an "issue" arises, try a change! It all boils down to individual tastes and preferences in the end. I like my crownies and will strengthen their appeal even more over time. Come time, come (new) parts (to use)!

Be well all!

I have to disagree, the crownies are one of the better factions. The overall sets, designs, and color scheme are not boring. Blue and Grey, perfect color combination.

Now if you want a boring faction, it is the skeletons.

I think the "Crownies" are one of the cooler factions in the Castle stuff. As a whole, I love all of the 2007 until Kingdoms stuff (though I only managed to get a few sets, mostly ones with the trolls.) :knight:

 can't really argue with that!

I think the Crownies look fine, sure they don't stand out but they look a solid disciplined army. The old Dragon Knights look awesome but they also look like a bunch of potential deserters/mutineers. More barbarous than civilised.

I do agree that they lack the vibrancy of some of the other factions. However, they have quite a bit of diversity. Their soldiers have 3 different torsos. They have a king, queen, princess, wizard, jester, printed euro armor knight, and golden knight. They also have 2 different horse bardings. I'm probably forgetting someone in all of that too. I don't think they are boring. I think if I were to label any group boring it would be Royal Knights, but that may be because I just don't have a use for them. If I want Lions, I will either use the new guys or I will use the older Crusaders (usually for nostalgia, but I do like the blue and red combination with the gold around the crest).

Huh. Do you have pictures of your Castle armies? They sound really cool.

Damn! That guys skeleton army is huge and impressive, he has some awesome customs there!

Yea his army is pretty awesome. Makes me feel like buying a ton of skeletons in an attempt to replicate his army. No clue how he built the skeleton centaurs or skeleton giants and other creatures though.

Have to disagree, my friend. Aesthetically speaking, the blue and bley with gold accents is just beautiful. Throw in all of those beautiful armored knights and you can color me thoroughly impressed.

Actually, we're polar opposites here-- if anything, I find the old Dragon Knights the least impressive. They're just kinda, I dunno, there.

I don't think so, the crown knights are one of the modern factions with a lot of character, and a beautiful color scheme. May I remind us of the jelly bean knights? They certainly were colorful, but are in my opinion the most useless castle faction ever produced. The forces of evil in that line were also quite drab, and had even less variety in armor and helmets than we've had in Fantasy era and Kingdoms.

I think the reason some people dislike them is because their symbol isn't as potent as a lion, for example. I think the dwarves were a great idea, and am disappointed we didn't get at least one other set in the last wave of Castle. There is no reason crownie knights should be looked down upon;if they look outdated compared to Kingdoms knights, don a few bucket hems on your knights and stick in blue feathers, and you'll see they fit in the Kingdoms line like a glove.

I can see how the skeletaurs ( ) work, it requires a skeleton with pose-able arms, 2 extra feet, 4 extra arms (clips same orientation) a minifig hand (for the tail), 4 of these 4085b.gif, 4 bull horns, a 2x4 plate, 2 2x2 round plates, 1 of these 2555.gif, 2 of these 60470.gif. And a "stud breastplate".

edit: I forgot 2 of these 2540.gif

I think I will leave some of the other creatures alone... they don't quite look as simple...

Loved the Crown faction: multiple nice looking torsos (6 counting viking print +2 females torsos), 2 barding prints, 3 printed armor pieces and some pretty solid sets. Think that is pretty good for one castle faction.

I disagree with the OP as well. Having missed out on the GOlden Age of LEGO Castle, the Crownies are one of my favorite

fantasy armies. Their resemblance to Gondorians from LOTR is awesome as well.

Crownies are a very nice looking faction

Maybe a tad on the nutral side, but over all still quite nice.

Boring factions for mw are the crazy jelly bean Knights, everything else is ok

I'm sorry I cannot present any pictures as of now. I always mean to get them ready to be photographed, but my schedule is overfilled right now... sounds like a petty excuse, but without any exaggeration, it's a hard time for me right now. Which is the reason why my collection is rather disorganised right now.

I see whether or not I might be able take some pics of them in the near future.

But here's something I overlooked to include in my initial post: Although the crownies have three torso-variations at their disposal, I found the newer Kingdom's-"archer" torso would benefit them as well. So a simple swapping of red arms for dark blue ones works wonders. Alas, the torso I mean IS very universal in use: Before they became part of my crownies they were part of an experiment in creating armed rangers as allies for them by using dark green arms.

What these "experiments" imply in regards to the thread's title I leave to you ;-) .

Be well all!

I can see the original posters point. The blue on blue is not flashy by any means. However, this is much less of a debate and just a personal preference issue.

I personally found the crownies incredible. They were the first faction to bring back the checkered quarters pattern. The dark blue and light blue with gold accents was just money to me. I agree that this faction looks more regal than past factions. Their armor and weapons are brighter. In my LEGOdom this is the merchant faction that trades with all other factions. I have more crownies than any of my other "good" factions. I think appropriately since they also seem to be the richest.

I have large armies of every faction TLG has ever made. It is in my best interest that the crownies were very different than past lego factions. I do not need more of the same. I have already collected those in the past and done that. Every new faction has made me happy since they all differ appreciably from the classic castle factions. I hope the future factions look just as wonderful.

Seriously... I don't think Crownies is boring especially after considering that I have actually bought some KK Knights for awhile and I am so glad that the Crownies took over in 2007 and lasted for a good 3 years before Kingdoms took over.

In fact, the Crown Kingdom could be one of my largest assembled army among my existing factions.
