6212 X-Wing Fighter... were changes made?

Hey all,

I picked up a 6212 X-Wing Fighter yesterday. I noticed when building it that the technic cylinders at the back of the cannons and that hold up the little structures that make the wings extend/contract were different. Rather than the ribbed cylinder pictured on the box, they were smoother (but served the same function). Also, Han Solo had a different face (looked like a Han Solo from a newer set).

So... has anyone else seen this happen? Granted, 6212 is four years old and they might've added newer parts/discontinued others.

Yes. Faces have been pupilized, those Technic connectors you mentioned are now smooth, and rubber bands now come in the cardboard box instead of the rubber band holder.

I assume that if this set continues to be produced, then Leia and R2 will also receive updates and the chrome hilt will become metallic/pearl.

Thanks! Interestingly, Luke's face wasn't "pupilized"... do you know if the "pupilized" Luke face has come in any 6212 sets?

Yeah, I got pupilized Luke and not Han.

The wings don't extend/contract, they open to form an X. "Lock S-foils into attack position..."

Yes, they updated the minifigures and even replaced outdated pieces but the design itself is unaltered. Isn't it ridiculous how after four years they still don't seem to want to redesign the actual ship? Especially seeing all the fantastic MOCs out there which I'm sure they could take cues from. More here. I guess kids will scream at anything shiny, but I'm surprised by how many AFOLs like it ( and the snowspeeder, and the TIE fighter, and the new Falcon...)

I've seen this before. When I got the 2009 Battle of Endor, I got a 2010 Han Solo face.
