Sir E Fullner Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hello, all. I was just thinking (as I usually do about things) about my first train set, a Union Pacific GP7. That got me to wondering: Have any of you out there had any other train sets beside the ones made by LEGO? If you did, please post the set below. Always entertaining, always wondering, always: Quote
Sir E Fullner Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 Well, you handsome dog, my first train set was a Union Pacific GP7 with a boxcar, gondola, tanker, and a caboose. I later got a small ATSF shunter to help out with loads. Quote
AussieJimbo Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) Well, you handsome dog.... LOL. Nice bump. :-) We had some HO/OO trains when we were growing up, just a basic layout on an old door but it was fun. Thanks Dad. Had a look at some HO/OO and N scale stuff a few months back but I decided that Lego was doing a pretty good job emptying my wallet already. I'd love a G-scale layout one day. The ultimate would be a real garden railway, 1 foot or 15 inch gauge live steam but that's just dreaming. :classic: Edited March 2, 2011 by AussieJimbo Quote
vgsprites Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 When I was growing up, my parents gave us HO scale trains versus the expensive lego train sets. We had 2 UP SD-40s and a C&O switcher with plently of freight cars. Also we had two layouts running at once. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Well, you handsome dog... Let's watch that double posting Efullner - much appreciated. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 When I was a kid I remember the steam engine Br23 from my father's Marklin collection ...very nice days waiting for the 7740 Lego set! Quote
Duq Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 I didn't have a set as such, but my dad had an attic full of N-gauge trains. I never had Lego trains as a child ("We've got enough trains in the house!") so I'm catching up now... Quote
Brickimad Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 A friend I know, who got me into Lego and trains, as his father owned the toy shop and had a huge Hornby set in the attic. His day-job now is an engineer on a local miniture railway, at Rudyard Lake on the Staffs/Cheshire Border in the UK. He repairs and maintains the stock. His dad ownes several old tractors and Traction engines. Quite a spectacle on Carnival day! Website http://www.rlsr.org/ Quote
dr_spock Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Growing up I didn't have Lego trains. My grandfather got me an Amtrak HO set and I was hooked on HO. I had F40PH and Amfleet passenger rolling stock. My favorite mag was Model Railroader. Unfortunately I don't have pics from back then. Quote
