minifgure_fan Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I was at my local TRU today and noticed they've marked up the castle to $164, the train to $98, and the burrows to $79. What will they do next?!
prateek Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Don't worry, this is nothing new. TRU always jacks up prices.
WhiteFang Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 And, this does not belongs here. Moved to BSTF. WhiteFang
CommanderFox Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 At least you have the sets in stores! NZ didn't get a single set on shelves as they sold out online before they could make it. Darn me for being so indecisive! CF
JCC1004 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Don't worry, this is nothing new. TRU always jacks up prices. Though that is true that seems like a very high mark up for TRU. +34 on the castle +18 on the train +20 on the Burrow Usually it's only 5 or 10 dollars. Not even SW prices get that much of a mark up.
joeee Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Pfft, no wonder they have a sale for buy one get one 50% off lego sets. What's the difference if they marked up the prices anyway?
j30spiff Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 (edited) I was at my local TRU today and noticed they've marked up the castle to $164, the train to $98, and the burrows to $79. What will they do next?! My local TRU normally has no more than a $10 mark-up on Lego sets. The only time I saw them at $10+ was approximately 1-2 weeks before last Christmas. When they restocked, their prices went back to the TRU normal mark-up. It wouldn't surprise me though if they increased their mark-up for their BOGO 1/2 off sale. In fact I expect it from them. escortmad79 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 TRU (certainly in the UK) do price match so if it's cheaper elsewhere IN STORE (Not internet) & not cheaper due to them being on sale elsewhere then they will match the price. They will phone the retailer to check the price
Harrypotterfreak Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Yeah, all the LEgo sets at my TRU are $5-10 more then they're supposed to be. It's very frustrating. Now I just find time to drive up to Phoenix and go to the Lego store!!
MCNwakeboard Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 You can always order it online for a store pickup because the online price is often better than the store price.
Sirius Black Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Wow, that is a really high markup! I typically see 10-20% max, but that is like 25-30 percent! I always buy through other stores, or eBay. The Hogwarts Castles on eBay typically are about $115 USD, though i got mine for $100 w shipping .
lightningtiger Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 HP is like SW....high demand and TRU see the glow of credit cards and flash of cash, in Oz it's SW sets that are marked up over the RRP even just by a few dollars. Though some have said, what's new with TRU ? Hopefully retail pressures force TRU to keep the prices down.....but I feel that's only wishful thinking !
Hewman Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 TRU arent't the only ones marking up HP sets, Barnes and Noble are now selling Hogwarts for $150 (instead of $130 like they did before.
