Niku Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) Hello first topic that shall post with one of my MOC´S. Im still a rookie but will like any feedback and advice from you. And hope you like it. The Dragons attack¡ Defenders to their posts. Our spartans fight in less numbers. The assault continues. The battle rages on... A breech is opened, Dragons inside the fort... Quickly to the gate¡ Stand your ground. Lion Cavalry on its way. Will they arrive on time? Bonus Meanwhile, in the quiet garden behind the fort, the pig enjoys its food. Oink, oink, he doesnt know whether the Spartans or Dragons are victorius, he will be part of the fest, and not as guest. Edited May 22, 2011 by Rufus Indexed Quote
Waterbrick Down Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) First off, welcome, and glad to see you contributing your first MOC on the boards to the Historic Theme. Having the Dragon Knights versus the Spartans gives a good unique feel to both sides. Your action shots are great, especially some of the ones at different perspectives. One of the photos of the Spartans in the gate is a little out of focus but I know that hectic scenes can be difficult to get just right however some of the others photos are exquisite. One note of advice, you probably want to resize your photos as they can take quite a while to load on some members browsers and really detract from viewing the enitre display in all its beauty (Microsoft Paint is a simple tool for resizing pics). Anyways, to round it all off: great MOC, great action, and great Spartans, this makes me want to go get some of mine own now too . Keep 'em coming. Edited February 23, 2011 by Waterbrick Down Quote
Juppy Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Nice pictures! And yea, you really need to resize your pictures Quote
Niku Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 Hi again, i have resized the pics, hope this time the size is correct. Sorry for the large pics, before, wasnt aware, that brickshelf didnt resize them by itself. Also thanking the comments. Yeah I have to improve on my photo skills, maybe with a tripod would be better. And what will you improve to this design, as I said, is one of my firsts MOC´s in a long time, so maybe Im a little rusty. And lack of good concepts of design, I like it, but definetely think could be improved Please feel free to comment. Just be nice or Ill send Leonidas after you¡ Nah just kidding. Quote
SirSven7 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Nice MOC I'm Guessing you have Fort Legoarado in the western theme, this is a really good use of those parts (has given me an idea of my own) Some of my favorite parts are the screaming dragon knight fall off the wall, and the little garden in the back. The fort reminds me of a tempoary construct in a wilderness, I think it has alot of potential, just keep tinkering with it possibly add a small river at the front to keep the two boards together or make some rocks rather than black strips. Also consider changing one part of the wooden structure to grey brick, this gives it a focal point and a contrast with all the wood. But its a really nice Moc so far, you have soo many Spartans Quote

For the front part I want to do something more decorative, but at the same time functional, because a fort is a temporal practical structure rather than a permanent practical structure that can have nice add ups. Also about the grey bricks I think is a great change, when I finished the fort I saw the lateral parts and was like Meh¡ Really enjoyed more the back garden, and couldnt realize it was the contrast it gave the rock pieces, more than the vegetation. About adding a river seems pretty cool, just dont have much blue pieces. Just a couple, maybe 30, hardly a river. But Ill try to get those To be honest just have 9 Spartans, Im happy with the number. Greetings. Quote
SirSven7 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 It is always that problem between available bricks and what you want to do. I have a fairly limited number of sets too so i feel your pain. if brick numbers is the problem, another idea i had, was to play with the minifigs, get a few poses and indervidual duels going with the scene, for example, the dragon knight falling from the wall, have a spartan right next to him pushing him off. or with the spartans on the wall, try giving them a ranged weapon so they have some means of fighting back, rather than just looking angerly down at the approching hoard. and if you can, incorporte the garden more, maybe by moving it or maybe by haveing some attackers sneeking round the back. Just some ideas, I have 4 spartans and they spend most of there time in the bar of my MMV trying to get work as mercenaries, being drunk is the worst way to get work. I look forward to see where you go with this Sorry just some shameless promotion here. but the minifig poses thing i was going on about is in this link My link its a moc i did with wolfpack and falcons. it helped me get over my brick limit Quote
j30spiff Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Thanks for sharing your MOC with all of us. I really enjoyed your shots. They give a good depiction of the battle from both sides. Quote
Silverface Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 This MOC is very nice. The fort is quite simple but good. I like the idea of Spartans vs. Dragon Knights! Good job! Quote
Tazmaniac Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 This is a good MOC but with a few small details could be great. I like the Roman style fort, these were carried for place to place by each soldier taking a pole with them. for added realism there should be a ring of poles set at 45 degrees around the out-side of the fort topped with a cone piece or spear to stop an enemy charge. your battering ram is great! but you siege ladders should over hang the wall and be on less of an angle but thats no biggy. For a first MOC I'm very impressed, way better than my early builds and it's not something I've seen done as far as the type of fort. I expect to see some great stuff from you in future Oh and welcome to EB! Quote

Thanks a lot j30spiff, really think it capture the battle feeling? I was a bit worried of not achieve it, but Im glad it can be seen. This MOC is very nice. The fort is quite simple but good. I like the idea of Spartans vs. Dragon Knights! Good job! Thanks Silverface, the idea came after a class of history, at the begining it was intended for a Rome vs Barbarians, but it end this way. Thanks a lot TazManiac Really appreciate the advices, you are correct about the roman style for developing their forts, in fact it was a point where they exceled, among all other proofs of building techniques back in their days, simple yet functional. Im glad someone noticed the ram, truly i was proud of it. On the other hand my ladders will have to be redesign. Been honest the fort It has been tear apart, and the start of a new one has begun. In the future I expect to place it here. Just when i finish some university exams. Greetings. Edited March 1, 2011 by Niku Quote
