Muddy Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 SW Advent Series Information - I wanted to create a series of MOCs that fill the $40 dollar price range but also include standard Lego parts and techniques Lego uses. This basically means that I can not include any SNOT technique that Lego has not already used. I did not use any clip to the slide of a plate SNOT technique for example. Additionally I wanted to use roughly the same pieces Lego would use for a $40 set. Layout - For a standard layout I choose to go with 8 mini-figures each with an appropriate accessory and a mini-vehicle. I wanted to choose a balanced approach so that the bad guys and good guys had a fairly even arrangement. Lego focuses on play value and accuracy. With this in mind each of the sets had to be based on real scenarios and parts of the specific theme. For my first series I choose The Clone Wars series. Selection Class Character Accessory Vehicle - Jedi Roron Corrob Hologram and Holocron AAT - Separatist Mar Tuuk Command Chair Ahsoka’s Starfighter - Astromech R3-S6 Communications Console Anakin’s Starfighter - Protocol Droid 4-A7 Smuggled Cargo Twilight - Trooper Clone Trooper ARC Gear + Stand TX-130 Saber Tank - Trooper Battle Droid Gun Embankment Vulture Droid - Civilian Pepi Bow Swamp Scene Seperatist Shuttle - Bounty Hunter Assassin Droid (Grey) Mini-Kit Canister Magnaguard Starfighter Balance 3 good guys, 4 bad guys, and a Traitor 4 good guys, 4 bad guys Total Piece Count 319 (w/o Extras included) Some of the Episodes you can use - Battle of Corresaunt, Ryloth Blockade, Vultures Claw, Teth Monistary Landing, Space Battle above Tatooine, The Blue Shadow Virus, and countless other scerios. Easter Eggs – 2 of the spare pieces form a micro R2 that can pilot Anakin’s Starfighter, Roron Corrob from CW Animated, TX-130 Saber Tank from VGs, LSWVG Minikit ;-) simple and fits nicely in an Advent Set...Also each droid comes with a Panel that can swap out on the communications console...like LSWVG. Pictures will be posted as soon as I can buy a new digital camera, some guy paparazzi it… seriously don’t worry he got tooled much worse… catching somebody on camera is fun especially when they are in a “bubble”… opps ident busted… :-( I will do the piece out style photo instructions for them as well. O:-) Comments please leave them @ my spam email account miles.flinn.2056@gmail.com With subject line Brickshelf without that subject I will just not read it. Yours truly, Robert Blake. CommanderFox Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 A cool idea Muddy! I love some of the mini's you have done, especially: Tx-130, Vulture Droid, Obi-Wans Delta 7 and Anakins Delta 6. So you are going to do a few more of these? I look forward to seeing what you do next! CF Quote
Jedd the Jedi Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I've gotta say, that is really good work. I like that you made a very conscious effort to create something in a style that LEGO themself might actually do. The mini ships all look fantastic for the scale. The accessories are done really well - I especially like the mini-kit canister. However, it's nothing wrong on your part, but the minifigures...eh, just can't buy Mr Krabs as Roron Corob any day of the week - I'm sorry man. Comparing what you've done to LEGO's previous advent calendars for themes like City, I'll say don't be afraid to make a small display base-type diorama, or make the mini ships a little bigger. Also, it's all about the presentation - perhaps have your photographs taken with better lighting, and with no so much blank space - don't be afraid to zoom in, or crop it. And a picture of all the ships, figs and accessories together would be super. Quote

I purposely used Mr Crabs for Roron Corob - the sharp contrast was to show just how needed an ithorian head was ditto with R3-S6 (my black Astromechs are in out of state storage)... My camera is an old nikon digital (3 years old the screen is smashed (had a run in with a guy who didn't like to be held accountable for his actions...then he realized what I used to do and ran away to go play in traffic or something...the word is "oversight") ;-) Anyways I am a poor college student (former professional hacker for US Government ... The term advanced communications is probably more appropriate) I gave up everything to do with my previous line of work - it pissed off an assload of ppl who think they are "gods" who only can shoot themselves in the foot if they do anything about it :-p So I can not afford a new camera, I have been focusing on my studies so I can't afford better pieces all the time I am trying to rebuild my collection from scratch.., The US economy sucks... I refuse to clip pieces on the side of bricks it is so unlego like... I love the mini twilight myself Obviously this set took awhile to put together My next set is a force unleashed Advent... You can see the mini models in the folder and my flickr has preliminary stuff... http://www.flickr.com/photos/10092910@N02/sets/ I always prototype first - I am gifted with reverse engineering to hence why you see bagcharms w/o keychains - although I did steal the Millennium Falcon Design when I could not figure out which version actually got released (there are multiple stock photos of different versions out there all with just 1 view) Did you see my theed palace (personally I could have done better but it got 12k hit so far) considering LDraw at the time had parts that were 4 years behind the curve... The minikit cannister and the "tiles" which should be printed LSWVG tiles for Astromechs, Protocol Droids, and Bounty Hunters... The Force Unleashed one is early prototype you can tell by rancor hand not looking right should be new 1x2 plate with angled bars in white - the same as pictures you will see today of the ninjago monster truck launching hand function Obviously proxy was just a preliminary I tried magnaguard torso it strangely gets top heavy with lightsaber and protocol droid head... Legostein Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) Hello! The advent calendar idea is great for every fan. I also looked at your collection in your second link. A pretty nice start for a collection. Several of those vehicles see to be original designs by LEGO® when I see it correctly on these images, like the Venator, Y-Wing and some more. From your own designs, I really like the CR-20 Carrier. Using that 1x6 inverted slope was a brilliant idea! Cheers, ~ Christopher Edited February 13, 2011 by Legostein Quote

I know I saw the Inverted piece in my inventory and it felt right to use it... I made the "official" Micro Advent A-Wing and Imperial Shuttle Mini's I got to add on there to... I just have school and am looking to go back to work as well... I have most of the pieces for the Mini- Vulture Droid and AAT but I am still missing a few Hopefully I get my package soon so I can fill in the gaps in my inventory... I am trying to rebuild my sets from scratch because I told my ex she could sell what was in storage to pay off the debt forced upon us... (I say force upon because somebody wanted me to work for them and I said no...and they lost the argument... If they would have kept it up I would have to talk about "air inferority" or something like that - don't ask) it is my belief that no country should be able to force ppl to work for them if they are law abiding citizens and just want to live free...Of course George Bush needed to get his megablocks kicked publically and permanently for him to let go... I laugh cause my work was "special" and he wasn't special enough - lol Not everybody working for the US is accountable to the President... Anyways I want to finish my Force Unleashed Advent... Ninjago added alot of pieces to make it look better The new Lightsaber Hilt and the 1x2 with 3 bars pieces A few others too Any suggestions for changing the layout? Anything look out of place? I know photos are not best quality but somebody who I burnt broke my camera in retaliation It still works but only cause I am better at what I did than he was... O:-) Down the drain you go... I can't afford a new camera yet I need to get my car fixed first... It cost alot it seems I feel like I am driving a F-117 except broken down and antiquated But it looks relatively nice... Quote
BrickArtist Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Those are some lovely mini-models you've got there, muddy. Although I might recommended that in the future you include less personal stories/rants, and note when you have used a LEGO design. Quote
