legomaniac83 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I have a very unique job once the summer rolls around - the head Flagman and a local Dirt race track. I get to do it with my father, which makes it even more fun. It's actually kind of a relaxer for me. 2 or 3 times a year, we get a special class that comes to race - Sprint Cars. They are absolutely awesome to watch and they go ridiculously fast. They run on alcohol instead of fuel. Since they can get up to such high speeds, they have to put wings on the top and front of the cars to keep them on the track. I have fiddled with multiple designs to make one out of Lego, and here is my current model, along with race trailer and pickup (shown here previously). Most racers can't afford an enclosed trailer, so they bring their car the track with an open trailer, usually home-made: I am overall happy with the car, although the tough part was making it minifigure compatible, so the driver area is a bit taller than it should be. Here is a photo of a Sprint Car to compare: And I'll leave you with a photo of me doing what I love to do from last Fall: Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Nice truck, great trailer and AWESOME speedway car, I don't remember if anyone of us have done a speedway racing car ? Excellent designing and Brick On 'legomaniac83' Quote
AussieJimbo Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Yeah, great MOC, LM83. We have Sprint Cars in Australia too. Really fast and regularly seen in a wheels up orientation. You've captured the details very well. :classic: Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Very interesting Sprint Car design legomaniac! This is actually the first time I've seen one and I must say you really captured the overall look quite accurately. I also like your truck and trailer. Very well done! Quote
Syn Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 man I miss mini Sprint racing....the smell of that alcohol burning, the mud, the sound of about 100 cars in the pit all warming up. Let me be the first to commend you on an EXCELLENT job! you really captured it! I love the truck and the fact you can fit a minifig in the car!! Quote
Vindicare Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 That is a great looking sprint car, nice work! Tow car is cool, too. Quote
HeLena Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) legomaniac83, could you please show the pick up closer, or can you give me the instruction of it? I like this car :) Edited February 10, 2011 by HeLena Quote
jeffjcc Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Fantastic MOC. Sprint cars are so awesome. I can feel the dirt in my teeth now! Your truck is sweet. Looks like a standard 1500 truck you can buy today. Quote
legomaniac83 Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 legomaniac83, could you please show the pick up closer, or can you give me the instruction of it? I like this car :) Here is a building guide: Sprint Car Instructions Thanks for all the comments everyone! Quote
Zorbas Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 This is actually the first time I've seen one and I must say you really captured the overall look quite accurately. Same here Kiel. I wasn't aware of the existence of this particular type of sprint cars and I must say that your creation looks pretty close to the real thing. The pick up truck looks great too and I like the fact that you made it look longer by placing the wheels at that distance from each other - it doesn't look common that way. The details on the trailer are excellent. You've managed to put all these tools and gear without making it look overloaded and that's definitely a plus. Very interesting job btw. Quote
L@go Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Very nice, and instantly recognizable. As a petrolhead I have seen these before, but I have to admit that most of the time it has been one of those TV shows with crazy amateur videos. They do seem to crash a lot... :) Quote

LEGO Guy Bri Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Awesome sprint car, truck and trailer MOC legomaniac83! Great scale MOC. Any plans to build a couple more sprint cars? Keep up the great work. Quote
Vincent Kessels Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 All three look great, but the combination is awesome! Quote

Spike Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) Great Job and so awesome !! Race Car Fan !! Edited February 12, 2011 by Spike Quote
OctanTrucker Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Awesome moc! I really like that pickup and trailer. Would you mind sharing the instructions for the truck itself? I failed miserably when I tried to build a 6 stud pickup. Thanks. Quote
Out of Sight Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 WOW! Highly accurate model of an actual sprint car! Will you be making the Late-model class type pictured on the second actual photo? I like your pickup truck design, looks like the current model F-series Ford. An American pickup truck is on my next MOC list, yours sparks some new ideas, I plan to make a duallie, such as the Silverado 3500HD. Quote
Lyndonoflondon Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Hey lm83 can we please get some instructions for the trailer and pickup Quote
