BrickArtist Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Well, lets see. I think the reason most peolpe love these sets because at the time part counts were off the charts, and sets included masses of figs. In comparison to kingdoms, they are somewhat superior. Collectors would despise this though. As far as the market goes, kids see the piece of eye candy that the kings castle is, abd overlook the simple black falcon fortress. I can't picture them doing it ever. Quote
dragunov Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Well yes I agree, i'd like to see lego bring the old samurai and ninja factions back with more historically accurate buildings, mabey ninjas aswell, the ninjas could join sides with the dragon knights and the samurai with the lion knights. Jargo Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Combining the colours of Wolfpack with the ideas of Forestmen would be my ideal. Oh and keeping the wolf emblem. Even if it was reduced to just a sword pommel or a printed cloak clasp. I'd like it to be there, just not so prominent. More of a subtle nod to the past. And Instead of all those tree and cave hideouts have their main stronghold be a village with a tavern and cottages. A proper Blacksmith and foundry, a smallholding, village elder meeting hall. Peasant stuff like spinning and weaving. Normality. Then in such settings have hidden chambers and hiding places. secret store rooms and hollow walls. To be honest I'm tired of castles and knights. I think Lego should go further with the peasant/civillian life subtheme. stretch out in that direction for a while and leave the royal battles alone. Introducing a wolfpack/forestmen 'Robin hood and his merry men' type string to the peasant sets would be enough to provide action and adventure without having to go into castles directly. Quote

Similar to what I mean, Ideally I want to see more japanese samurai, but not in strongholds, perhaps a small village with a few samurai and figures representing their families. Quote
Captain Becker Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Should they?: Yes, they should. Will they?: No! Would they do it if they would have a change?: No! As much as i would like to get some older sets re-relased and bring back some older themes (As western). The problem is: They dont have those old molds anymore and if they make the new Western theme, it wouldnt be the same feeling on them like in good old days. So much as i wish they would give us old Classic sets (Such as Caribbean Clipper and Blacksmith shop.) The best way to get them is on Ebay. Captain Becker Quote

Captain Becker I'm not really sure you understood what this thread was about, because it sounds as if you meant TLC won't re-release classic sets and themes as they were back in their days. This thread however deals with the question whether or not old FACTIONS, that means specific "groups", with their heraldry and specific colours, of past themes should be re-introduced in a modernised and updated fashion. This on the other hand has nothing to do with TLC still having the old molds from back then simply because they wouldn't be required to release a NEW theme with NEW parts for NEW customers and just applying an appropriate print to the figures, hence: the emblems of older factions. Which is entirely feasible. Be well all! Cutty Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 YES! If you ask me, I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE a new rendition of the Black Falcons, as well as Forestmen. BFs will always be my first allegiance in the castle line, and I totally missed out on both Forestmen and the Wolfpack. BUT I don't think it'll happen, and I'll tell you why. It seems like TLG always ran into problems when they added a third faction into the mix... Wolfpack, Forestmen, even the Dwarfs to some degree-- maybe it's just me, but adding a third party to the fight between good and evil never seemed to end well for that third party. Maybe it's too hard to market them, as kids prefer things to be black and white, good vs. bad, lion vs. dragon, etc. So if you ask me, I think the only 'third faction' we'll get out of the current series will be the civilian population, which in all honesty isn't that bad. I'm not sure I follow you. The Forestmen got a number of sets and appeared in a few others. The Wolfpack was a little short. The dwarves may have been a little short (no pun intended), but the Trolls got several sets and they were the 4th faction. It's not an insurmountable issue. You phase from one to the other instead of throwing one away and having another take it's place. For instance, let's say they bring in either Forestmen in 2012. We will have a number of Dragon and Lion sets at that point, so the Forestmen can swing a small set ($10-$30). The big set will likely be a big castle for the Dragons. Have a mid range set ($40-$60) as a base of sorts for the Forestmen. Include a small Lion set ($10-$30) and a small civilian set. Throw a Forestman in the Lion set, the Dragon set, and the civilian set to give them a presence. So, something like this: 2012 Dragon Castle-Dragon King, Dragon Knight, Dragon Soldiers, Lion Knight, Lion Soldiers, Forestman (maybe a dragon too) $100 Forestman Hidden Base-Forestman "leader", Forestwoman, 2-3 Forestmen, Dragon Soldier or Knight (attacking) $40-$60 (probably the higher end) Lion Jail/Prison-2 Lion Soldiers, Forestman prisoner ($20-$30) Forestman Archery Range-2 Forestmen ($10-$15) Civilian Cart-Peasant, Forestman (highway robber) ($7-$10) Impulse-Forestman, Dragon Jester (face painted white with highlights, reversable head with smile on one side and frown on the other)/Lion Wizard That line up gets them in the door while still having the other two factions. Then in 2013 you go with something like this: 2013 Black Falcon Castle-King, Knight, Soldiers, Lion or Dragon attackers (or both), Forestman prisonser $100 Forestman Base-Several Forestmen, Black Falcon prisoner/attacker ($30-$50)-It doesn't make sense to me for the Forestmen to have a huge castle Black Falcon Tower-2 Black Falcon soldiers, 2 attackers (Lions, Dragons, Forestman, whoever) ($20-$25) Lion Wagon-Lion soldier, 2 attackers (Dragons, Black Falcons, or Forestman) ($10-$15) That's a way that you can cycle in new factions without tossing the old ones to the curb. Black Falcons were only an example. You could switch their castle for a smaller fortress and give the Forestmen a large forest/ruins base instead and then go for the big Falcon castle the following year. Quote
