OrangeKNight Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I dunno, maybe it's just me but I wouldn't mind seeing more variety and the stuff used for Technic sets, and its not all bad, just a little repetive while missing out on some cool stuff. Like, instead of doing moar run of the mill stuff, how about something like those epically huge Mining Dumptrucks, or doing the special underground versions of front end loaders and dump trucks; And thats just construction-wise, whouldn't it be cool to see another Hovercraft or other less than standard machines? I just feel like there is so much untapped potential out there... Mike Quote
Lasse D Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 When you say themes, I start thinking of the Arctic theme that Technic had many years ago. It was really refreshing to see a group of models from a specific theme all working together, so I totally agree. A mining sub-theme would be great. Quote
DLuders Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 (edited) How about a truly AMPHIBIOUS watercraft, with waterproof sealed axle holes in the hull. Powered balloon tires could move through the water and mud, and the protective hull could keep the Power Functions gear dry. Edited February 7, 2011 by DLuders Quote
Chrizzle Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 oh yes I total agree on this topic! I'd love to see more than just "standard machines"! For example something related to science fiction, futuristic vehicles etc. And of course a bit more variety in the major colour scheme would be nice, I personally feel a bit bored with so many grey and yellow parts...even red isn't attractive to me any more... Erik Leppen Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 If you say "technic sub-themes", please do not come up with graders or dump trucks (mining or not). Please come up with something actually different. Like space shuttles, boats, clocks, printing machines, technic animals (like the Dinosaur), walking machines. Those kinds of things. We se plenty of vehicles in Technic already. :) Quote
allanp Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) I too thought you meant technic "themes". A theme based on the rollercoaster tycoon computer games would be great. As regaurds to within the main technic theme, I think animals might be better suited to B-models to give more variety. A proper flagship monster truck would be great if it has alot of new heavy duty/low friction transmission parts. A multi engined plane or a BBBBIIIIIIIGGGGGGG helicopter would also be cool. Things like clocks, printing machines (which I used to work with as an engineer) and looms would be great for us AFOLs, but i'm not sure they would be that popular with the target demographic. Besides i'm not sure how well a 6 colour heidelberg would work in lego! Edited February 8, 2011 by allanp Quote
grohl Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I would love to see an aerobatic jet plane as a flagship. Something like this but maybe in blue to get our hands on larger blue panels. Quote
efferman Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 A Saab Scania Viggen? why not. Or think you about the Blue Angels? Quote
grohl Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 A Saab Scania Viggen? why not. Or think you about the Blue Angels? Blue Angels' Viggen would be nice but I would not mind any colour except red. The only thing that would matter to me is the fact that it is a jet plane. Quote
efferman Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 An Air show theme would be nice A pitts special Double Decker for example. or an waterplane theme with a Martin Mars and a de Havilland twin Otter Quote
DarkShadow73 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Another space shuttle would be rather nice. I've tried to find a decent price on a new 8480, but none to be found that are reasonable, argumentably so since it has been retired for many years. And while I do agree that mining versions of front end loaders or dump trucks aren't exactly way out there, but at the same time I doubt LEGO is just itching for an excuse to do soemthing spontanious and crazy either, doing something like in teh pics I posted of underground versions would still be close to what they've done, but at least ina new and refreshing style/shape, I would LOVE for some really crazy stuff, Like a Shuttle Transporter built to match a Giant Technic Space Shuttle with detachable Fuel tank and Boosters, but again, giant leaps don't usually happen like that you know? Tobbe Arnesson Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) I would love to see an aerobatic jet plane as a flagship. Something like this Ha! JA37 was not what I expected to see in that photo! I've seen it do a very low speed turn at close range, that's still the most amazing plane experience I've had. Something that big and heavy hanging in the air and the sound... ...that something can sound so HOT as that engine crackling! But aerobatic? Anyway, TLG would not do a fighter jet since even the JA37 is a pretty modern weapon. I've been considering building the SAAB line of jet fighters for years now but never got around too. I do agree more variation in the models would be swell. That's probably a huge reason I regard the 8480 Space Shuttle so high. Personally I would love some nice forestry machinery, TLG have hinted at that for a while now with the 8049 Tractor with Log Loader and the B model for both 8265 Front Loader and 8069 Backhoe Loader. I suppose it fails since there aren't any forests in Denmark. This would also be neat: http://www.stvab.se/index.php?id=470 Models need to strike a "cool" and instant recognition in the kids so it can't bee to obscure things. Talking about mining machinery, take a look at these: http://www.flickr.com/photos/legomachines/ Edited February 9, 2011 by Tobbe Arnesson Quote
grohl Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 If this is ok in Creator, why not in Technic. Quote

Yes, Denmark is desert all over Anyways, compared to the proportions of the Swedish forests, the forests of Denmark are of course somehow scaled down (more info on: wikipedia (in Danish, though)). And we do in fact manufacture one of the coolest piece of forestry machinery on the market - the Silvatec Sleipner 8-wheeler. You can check it out on Silvatec.dk. An official LEGO Technic model of the Silvatec Sleipner 8-wheeler would be just great! Quote
DLuders Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 This Plustech Timberjack walking forest machine would be great to see as an official Lego model, as part of a "Forest Machines" theme. It tip-toes through soft ground with spider-like legs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngy9wlrnEbY As far as a Lego Technic "Aircraft" theme, many of the "coolest" aircraft are MILITARY. This may be the closest that TLG may get to producing a military Lego set: Quote

AndroTech Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) DLuders, did you mean something like this? It's a Forest Machine made by LegoDejc from Slovenia Edited February 9, 2011 by Povratnik Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I see the problem, Silvatec does not seem to have even one decent photo of the machine on their homepage! I suppose the driver get tired of looking into that crane pretty fast. The Timberjack walking machine was a prototype only and AFAIK it failed due to computers not being able to do the processing fast enough, this was some years ago now (mid '90ies?). It would be hard to make it fast enough but it sure saves the ground from being teared up. A lot unlike this video, this is NOT intended use and had it been anywhere else then Russia I suppose the driver would have been fired and prosecuted for environmental abuse. But it sure displays the neat way an Eco Log harvester can rise/lower the wheels individually to keep the machine horizontal. http://www.eco-log.se/en/ The hard part of making an harvester in Technic is the felling head...
