The track is very nice, and the track-side structures add a lot to it (especially little details like the traffic signs).

If you have two sets of the white high-speed train, you can make one more train car (though it'll have a white roof instead of a white and transparant-black).

I'm a 80's 12V (grey era) collector myself, but 70's Lego is certainly nice, especially when you have a whole layout from the same time. I have a few of the 70's train idea books (239a 241) and they are great.

Great lay out, you certainly have a lot of track and a nice clear room to put it in.

Is the white train converted with a 4.5v motor inside it or is it Power Functions?.

The 4.5 volt lay outs always seem a lot cleaner than 12volt (when its on the floor) due to the lack of power cables, do you have the same size in 12volt too?.

Great layout! What do you use for traction tires for the 4.5v motors? I recently rebuilt my only lego train, set 7722, but the traction tires crumbled apart in my hands. I'd really like to run the train again, assuming it still works.

( I guess I'd need to buy some grey track, too, since I am missing one rail).

Hi all,

thank you very much for all the nice replies! :classic:

Very impressive 4.5 V layout. Never seen one this large and in such good condition! Really a great vintage collection to have :classic:

I've spent a lot of time (and money  ) during last two years to complete this collection and to clean every single pieces of lego from the dust (using water, soap, brush and compressed air  )!

1) The white train is the original Power Funcions, I've only bought a middle wagon more and completed the ICE train with back red lights.

2) My 12 volt layout is a little bit greater than 4,5 layout as you will see ...I hope soon !

For the traction I've bought new rubber bands on e-bay, you can easily find both type (gray and black) there.

Kind regards

Ah, that explains why there's so little 4.5V and 12V track left on bricklink! (I bought my track about 2 years ago, and at the time there were a lot more bricklink shops where I could buy track from).

Hi Hoeij, and nice to meet you...

sorry about that but I don't think I'm responsible of that  ...I've notice the same on bricklink, but the love for lego is bigger than any problems!

As someone says: "keep_on_bricking!"

I have sooooooo much blue track...most of it from my original purchases back in the 70's plus inheriting various cousin's LEGO collections over the years, but there is still loads of blue track and accessories on ebay most weeks.

I have finally managed to manufacture some 'interfaces' between the older style track (blue and grey 4.5v) and the new City Track, so I can now splice my new City layouts onto my existing huge blue and grey layouts. By cutting the 1 stud connector piece off both ends of a curved section, and supergluing onto a 1x8 plate, then shortening a pair of blue or grey straights by one stud length (with a hacksaw!) and gluing to the manufactured connector, I now have some sections of retro straight track that connect to the new stuff (or 9v....the connector is the same, I think?).

With the 4x AAA NiMh pack and a PF reciever, I can also run all my retro trains (171, 182, 7710, 7745) with 4.5v motors using PF control. See my other posts for ideas on how to modify 4.5v to work with Power Functions.

I have quite a bit of track too, though perhaps not quite as much as you. Here is my layout at the local train show last year:

http://www.math.fsu.edu/~hoeij/t/Layout2010/

and

The file tables.jpg shows the table sizes (they're 8 by 2.5 feet and some are 6 by 2.5 feet) and the other file Layout2010.pdf shows the track. Note that I have 3 trains running on the same 9V loop, and 2 on the same 12V loop.

Here in the US it's rare to see 4.5V or 12V track on eBay, and shipping from Europe is expensive, so buying things at a reasonable cost has meant lots of patience.

One thing about 4.5v - it was designed so that it would run for a decent time on the batteries of the 1960's. On todays batteries they seem to go on for ever! I have bought one set of batteries just to resurect my first childhood train, a motorised 133. It has already lasted several times longer than my Power functions 60052, and is currently trundling around the base of my Christmas tree without any sign of slowing down. I am anticipating the batteries will last in to the new year, albeit not in continuous use!

Excellent Collection, you are lucky because have the space to run your train.. my problem is too much 12v grey era rail and not to much space to install...

I prefere the Gray era because (since i was a child) i love the set with minifig.. when they come out... something is change in LEGO and me!
