So after having finally acquired some Kingdoms sets, I thought I might build a little scene to accompany them. :sweet:

Now here's the catch. I'm looking for some constructive criticism on this MOC, so that I can become a better builder, and y'all can get some practice in criticising constructively, and helping others become better builders! It's a win/win! So, bring it on.

I'll start by saying it's pretty good already.

Let's see... you could mix up the path colour a bit more, like throw in spots of different browns, tans, even some small bits of rock or puddle?

See if you can make the walls less flush (since you've mixed up the colour a little already) - an interesting technique I've seen is to use headlight pieces and place tiles on the studs to make the wall jut out a tiny bit here and there. Maybe some small holes near the bottom or stones that have been knocked out? You've got holes in the roof...

Some rope or chain wrapped or hanging from a beam or something? Wall mounted torches (in use or not)? Broken stuff on the ground?

You've made a good start so far.

This is a very well done MOC iamded ! I'm in no way an authority in historic theme building, but I must say the whole build really looks good, both the archway tower and the surrounding details. As far as suggestions would go, I would just have to second Artanis' recommendations, probably adding some rock/stone formation on the side to complement the greeneries, as well as roughening up the walls with some variation in brick surfaces. So far, this already a pretty good MOC, nice work! default_thumbup.gif

Thanks for the comments guys! I appreciate the feed-back, and will be sure to incorporate your suggestions in future MOCs!

If anyone else has any comments or criticism, feel free to share! :sweet:

This is really cool . My only criticism is the path, not the colour just that it is to far above the area around it. In my opinion I think the path should be one to two studs below the green plates. Other than that I think this is so cool. I love the two good kights about to attack (maybe an archer on the roof as back up?). Great stuff .

Thanks, CB

Here is my feedback on this already good looking scenery. :classic:

I would get rid of those large wooden poles due to historic and architectural realism. The stone top floor is falling apart while these wooden beams are still standing. Wooden beams were also hardly used in the corners for defensive structures. I would certainly add woodwork somewhere, but not in the corners. Replacing them with grey bricks should be awesome. :pir-sweet:

I'm also a tile fan, but that's just personal, I would tile the outpost structure on the top and add a lone flagpole with perhaps a torn flag on it.

Hope that helps!

Thanks crabboy, I'll remember that!

I like your upside down grass tree.

Cheers lego40k!

Thanks for this feedback Cap'n Blackmoor! You make a good point regarding the wooden beams, I guess I was going for looks over architectural stability. I'll be sure to give that more thought in future. I would have tiled the top too, but alas I have no 1x1 tiles, so I wouldn't be able to get the corners. Unless I changed the pattern, but that honestly did not occur to me. Thanks very much for the comments though!

ISC dons the shiny boots to begin the butt-kicking

Well where to start, nah just joking. A really nice creation. I would like to see a less rectangular base, or even a built baseplate like Derfel has started using. Try using headlight bricks with tiles on them to rough up the walls, add a few holes in the stonework as well. Try the log bricks in grey as well and dark grey plate rather than bricks. you could even try slopes next to each other one side one plate higher to create a crack in the wall. The top timber looks good the way its falling away. The ground detail and trees look nicely done.

Good stuff.

Cheers for the feedback, ISC! I assume by log bricks you mean these? Shame I don't have any in colours other than brown, but I'll keep it in mind for future. I would have added holes and cracks in the walls if I wanted it to look crumbling and in ruin, but I didn't really. I know, you must be wondering why I did the thing with the corner and roof if I wanted it to look maintained. Looking back, I'm not sure why I added the overgrown corner. I planned to have a knight swinging down on the vine, but abandoned that idea. For some reason I didn't revert the building back to how it was. Oh well, live and learn. All lessons I can learn from in future MOCs. :sweet:
