MdrnMrvls Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) I haven't posted here in a long while, so here's my latest creation, a Classic Red Barn. Classic Red Barn by Mdrn~Mrvls, on Flickr Classic Red Barn by Mdrn~Mrvls, on Flickr Classic Red Barn by Mdrn~Mrvls, on Flickr This took me about two months to produce. It originally started out with a really basic roofless frame of the building with any sort of brick I could find—mostly yellow and blue. From there I counted the pieces I needed and ordered a good amount of red 1xX bricks. Another order soon followed to complete the roof and grass. By far the trickiest/irritating bit of this whole model was the top most roof sections. They can't just sit on there, or else they slide off, pushing the middle roof section off in the process. So I had to place them on little hinges, which worked pretty well, aside from the fact that they leave little gaps near the top. I'm really happy in how this turned out. I've never built a barn before, and now I finally have! Enjoy! Edited January 29, 2011 by MdrnMrvls Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Excellent MOC MdrnMrvls! I simply love the high-roofed design, which is very accurate to real-life barns. The other builds like the small farm house, windmill, and tractor, are very well done too. Great job! Quote
meyerc13 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 When I looked at the first picture I thought it looked very nice, much like the barns you see all around my state (Wisconsin). I especially like the foundation, which is quite realistic. However, when I looked at the second picture the scale seems off to me. Barns are quite large, but typically a barn door would be at most twice the height of a grown man - 10-12 feet. Looking at your pictures, it looks like the door is quite a bit larger than that. Quote
Zorbas Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Very beautiful work MdrnMrvls! The barn looks very impressive and the roof is succesfully built. The basement doors is a nice and clever detail. The sliding doors work great and they look even better with the thin white frame around them. The smaller building together with the windmill are excellent and they sure give me a farm-y impression and together with that brilliant tractor (I love it!) produce a beautiful farm life picture. Excellent work! Quote
MdrnMrvls Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) Zorbas: Thank you! I'm happy that you like it. KielDaMan: Thanks! I also wanted to be able to fit a tractor and hay trailer in there at some point. I'm glad you like it though! Edited January 29, 2011 by MdrnMrvls Quote

lightningtiger Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Another AWESOME creation I have seen today......oh, WOW ! Excellent and SPOT ON building 'MdrnMvrls' - it looks just like a barn from a US rural scene. Keep up the COOL work and Brick On 'mdrnMvrls' ! Quote
Captain Becker Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Its very well done MOC, but there is always a small thing to improvment eh? The walls are just one big red wall, it would help if some white stripes would broke it, you know like sloped and straight etc. But otherly its a fine MOC. Captain Becker Quote
MdrnMrvls Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) Thanks a lot everyone! Captain Becker: I'm pretty satisfied with the look as it is now because this was the original look I was going for. There's so many variety of barns in both color and in style I don't think it matters too much. Thanks for the suggestion though! Edited January 30, 2011 by MdrnMrvls Quote
fluffybunny Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 great work, I see these barns all the time where I live, captured very well. At first look it was a little tall I thought, but after reading that you wanted to fit vehicles and things in I understand why it had to be so tall. Great work!! Quote
MdrnMrvls Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 Thank you! There's also a barn out by my house that I was referencing. It's kind of a strange barn, because, as you mentioned, it's really tall compared to all the other barns around me. Quote
legomaniac83 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) Great Barn MdrnMrvls! I was browsing your Flickr stream a while back and loved your shed as well. Just the inspiration I need to start my own! I think the only thing the barn is missing are Lightning Rods on the top. As for the door height, every barn is different. Our barn door is about 18 ft high so we can fit our combine in. Again, great MOCs! Edited February 2, 2011 by legomaniac83 Quote
Fires-storm Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Well done Mdrn! I love the roof shaping, as well as all the detail you added, such as the actually sliding door and white trim, plus the ramp which is also very accurate! I've always been happy with your builds, and this is one of your best! Keep at it mate! Quote
MdrnMrvls Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 Well, thank you guys! That means a lot! Quote
