With the experience I gained from my earlier Signal Box and Ticket Office/Stair Tower builds, I felt ready to take on the main game, building a railway station.

This time for inspiration I focused on the beautifully restored Cooma railway station. Cooma was the largest station on the now disused Bombala branch line. It's was a bustling place in the 50's and 60's during the winter, serving as the transfer point from the snow trains from Sydney on to buses taking travellers to the ski resorts up in the mountains.

My model is loosely based on the centre section of Cooma station which contains the entrance hall, ticket office and waiting area. If I recall correctly, the real interior has these as several separate rooms and as you might make out from the shots above, the entrance onto the platform is only a small regular-sized door.

I wanted something more open for my design so I widened the platform access with some sliding doors but kept the road side entrance representative of Cooma, with passengers able to pass through either door of the small annex. The next modules will be loosely based on the rest of Cooma station with sections either side representing a baggage room, station master's office, tea room and additional waiting area.

As it is, this first module can stand on it's own as a smaller station you might see along a branch

line containing just the requisite ticket office and waiting area. Ultimately I have grand plans for a two story mainline station made of several modules similar to this one but for the moment I'm very pleased to present my Small Railway Station.

I hope you like it. This is just the beginning.

Absolutely. A very nice interpretation of an actual station, and really in keeping with the golden age of steam, too. I think a lot of the LEGO station type offerings look just a little bit too modern.

Really lovely. Nice job.

AWESOME 'AussieJ'.....totally AWESOME, but one little suggestion....some interior please !

Great looking floor and man, does it fit all your other buildings.....it has a real Victorian or New South Wales feel to it !

Thanks everyone.

Very impressive sir!

My pleasure, squire.

Many thanks, LT. I'm glad you like the floor and the feel of the design. I generally prefer a studded floor for playability but with the lack of other interior detail so far and enough tiles left over I thought I'd give it a go.

Given your skill in this area I thought you might have some ideas. A few things it certainly needs are a route map on the wall, clock(s), seating, one of those TV tiles, a computer for the ticket office and in the waiting area for Internet and maybe some printed timetable stickers.

I'd value any other suggestions you might have.

Nicely done. It's got a nice look and the color scheme works. I especially applaud your follow through with the red pinstripe around the features of the building.

Cheers Tony. I've seen some of your great work really so I really appreciate your comments. I particularly liked the way the strip worked when I built it into the support columns.

My original stair tower/ticket office was in some ways a strange little building to kick things off with but was really useful in establishing a few of the design cues that would help the future buildings relate to the existing 7937 sets and each other.

The red pinstripe looked good on the on the Apple Tree House main model so I kept it but for some reason that set has the windows too high, at minifig head height. From the platform side point of view, I had to reduce the grey layer by a brick to match the 7937 platform walls and the white layer by 2 plates to bring it the windows to a correct height.

It does prove quite intensive in white plates though to keep all the levels right, twice as may white ones as red ones to get the job done. However it's worth it to tie in with the 7937 sets and the first floor stripe (2nd floor for my US friends) and the repetition of the grey and beige layers on the signal box and it's stairs and balcony.

I've got to thank Lego for their nice colour selection on the Apple Tree House which, along with 7937, has proven to be a great source set for parts and ideas for this project. I have five of them so far *eek* mainly because I'm chewing through grey for those two and a third brick high foundations plus the other grey layers and lapping up those nice beige framed windows.

I can realistically see myself needing at least 4 or 5 more to finish a two story mainline station which is why I'm looking to pick up a few from Amazon but a local sale may sway me to but a few more locally and add the next two modules to this single story one.

My modular Fire Station has been taunting me with it's masses of grey bricks, knowing full well that I can't bring myself to pull it down for parts. Might grab a duplicate online if I can find a good price.

Any other set suggestions for good hauls of grey bricks and 1x? white plates?

Well I couldn't help myself and bought another two ATH's today so I could keep on building.

No time for photos tonight but I'm pleased to report completion of the roof of the second module that will complete the right hand side of the station (looking from the track side). This section will contain the station master's office, a baggage room and a loading dock.

Look out for my Medium-sized Railway Station soon.

A quick post at this late hour to report completion of the second module of the railway station. It's looking great joined up with the first module but has brought home just how big this station will end up being.

The two module building is now 72 studs long with another 32 stud module to come on the other side of the centre section. It's easily the largest Lego building I've ever made.

Still no furniture or accessories, I'm having too much fun getting the structures done.

I've also finished building the lever frame into the floor of the signal box for a much more realistic look.

Pics of both tomorrow.

Happy builder off for some rest.
