yoraish Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Hi, I don't know if you have seen it before but this excavator is just excellent! Check it out: Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Smoooooth! Here it handles a pretty big rock with ease: Here we can see that the dumper is fully remote controlled as well: Bucket replaced by gripping claw: Quote
roamingstop Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 The alternative LA design is really interesting.... Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) A very good attempt, well done. Edited October 23, 2014 by Alasdair Ryan Quote
Tobbe Arnesson Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 The alternative LA design is really interesting.... Someone here showed that design a while ago, probably like a year ago but the thread was bumped in autumn. Sorry, don't recall anything more specific than that. Quote
Sam42 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Those big home-made LAs may not be that prototypical but they sure are powerful! i love the way the excavator handled that big rock with ease, try that with 8043! Quote

davidmull Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 (edited) Nice Smooth machine but very ugly looking thing, Edited January 24, 2011 by davidmull Quote
Out of Sight Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I like how smooth and 'natural' it moves, much like a human arm. I always see an excavator as giant mechanical digging human arm. Although I also suspect it's operated by a good human too The other operators that matches the smoothness of this operator I think is Rien and Jurgen. Excavators are HOT, I love them, very versatile and acrobatic for their size. Ever search for excavators stunts on Youtube? The dumptruck is also the proper size too with loader sized tires, unlike the small and useless 8264 Hauler. Quote
rien Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I think the boom is too big cause of the L.A's but it works fine and for me thats enough good job and yes he has been diggin befor i notice Quote
Milan Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 There is, IMO, even better Excavator that uses brick-built actuators, .Movements are really smooth and precise, and they are perfectly sclaed. This is my attempt to create big actuators, and I am very pleased with them, smooth, proper scale, thin and virtually unbreakable: Quote
power1369 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 I know this thread is old but by any chance has anyone built this excavator besides MrFabrice88? I am hoping someone has better pictures of the boom functions in order to help me re-create them. Thanks Power1369 Quote
darksheep Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Amazing there is one at the beach near my house doing all this stuff (digging sand and moving big rocks in to place ) , its red as well , will try to get a pic tomorrow to share . Was thinking to day when i saw it "I wonder if any one has build an excavator with such a proportionately long arm". Thanks for sharing . Quote
power1369 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 It would be great to get as many pictures as possible of the boom arm, how the actuators function, motor placement, etc It is incredible to see a Lego excavator moving rocks of that size. Power1369 Quote
darksheep Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Hi Hear are some pics of a real excavator taken near my hose sorry for the bad pics, I had to use my cell phone . You can fine more pics at this link Quote
nerdsforprez Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Nice Smooth machine but very ugly looking thing, back to the function vs. looks debate.......can't really fault it for its looks if it is so very functional. As has been discussed on the forum, usually there is a signficant tradeoff between the two Quote
