I've been wanting to post a vig for a while, and came up with this one over the past couple of evenings. Comments and critique are more than welcome.

"The friendly bandito offers to relieve the cowboy of his map, while the hapless senorita dreads the mess she'll have to clean up soon..."

The layout is fairly simple but our reminds me of the way an old western town actually would look.

I quite like it as well as the black & white effect.

I struggled with the bareness of it, but anything I added just seemed out of place, from an outhouse to a group of pigs.

I quite like it as well as the black & white effect.

Thanks. It just didn't look right in color.

Cool stuff, I too find the Mexican really inspiring and am currently building a Southwest/Mexico moc. So this is extra inspiration!

Thanks all.

Most of the collectible minifigs give me ideas, and since I have all my brown and tan bricks sorted (a long term project), I was able to enact one. I have a few more, and think I can do better.

Hi TW. I'm TheBrickster and have built a few western MOCs over the years.

First, it's always a pleasant surprise to see more fans of the Wild West theme and their creations.

I love the incorporation of the Mexican with Sombrero, one of my personal all-time favorites of the minifigure series'. You've got to love that sombrero!

There's a few things that you might consider to "spruce up" your creation: 1) you might try placing the fence (pictured on left) in front of the building with some barrels, and maybe another bush or two. The wagon wheel looks good. 2) The building could benefit from some additional details like a custom decal for a sign (maybe in Spanish), as well as some roof supports sticking out of the top sides (common to Mexican/Spanish architecture).

You're off to a good start and I like the figs that you've added (having the cowboy with map is a nice addition).

Oh, and one more thing: B&W photos look good for this sort of thing, but you might also try Sepia or adding some yellow and red to your black and white image. It creates a more antique look, if your camera or photo-editing software has the option.

Good luck in your Wild West buildings!

Thanks for sharing this shot with us, Mr. Taylor - I would love to see more.

Much of the constructive criticism I would offer has already been supplied by Mister Brickster! The roof supports to which he refers are known as vigas and are indeed a staple of adobe architecture (one that is both easy to build and rather authentic looking). Do an image search for the term along with another key word like "adobe" or "pueblo" - you may find some valuable reference material. When building in a similar Southwestern style some time ago, I took great inspiration from this layout, rich with traditional pueblo style: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=16830

Thamks guys!

It's funny y'all mention the vigas. They are a glaring discrepancy that I've already incorporated in to my next structure. I live in San Antonio, and grew up in the Southwest, and just didn't even think about them until after I'd photographed the scene.

Thanks again for the comments and advice.
