metalslime Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) I've always enjoyed watching samurai movies (ah well who doesn't love samurai?), and really loves to live in a traditional Japanese house. While I was window shopping the new NinjaGo series I suddenly had this strange idea of making a 60s samurai movie vignette. here it is! Shogun's carefully giving orders to his Buka (subordinate)... Or was he secretly giving secret messages to his trusted ninja master? From another angle. The roof. With slide door closed. Here's how the Buka looks like, in case you're curious More pics @ Flickr: http://www.flickr.co...ith/5354335445/ -おわり The End- Hope you enjoyed it! Edited May 23, 2011 by Rufus Indexed Quote
Masked Builder Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 That's great looking! I'm really liking the first shot! Quite effective at introducing the MOC. Quote
shutinc Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Not bad at all! I especially like the look on the face of the main character and how you made the roof. Simple, yet very effective! Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 This is just an amazing vignette, I'm really very impressed! The greyscale first shot is really reminiscent of classic 60s samurai movies. The custom shogun is simply perfect with the proper combination of head, hairpiece, torso, and legs. The portion of the Japanese house is very well-built too with the accurate roofs and functional sliding doors. Great job overall metalslime! Quote
ED-209 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Excellent work! I must admit I'm not a fan of mixing the yellow and flesh-toned heads, and I do realise that the buka's torso has a flesh-toned neck, but overall I think it's a sensational MOC. I love the monochrome pic with the red "stamp", the sliding door looks marvellous, and the stone lanterns likewise. The S3 samurai torso is just perfect for this kind of thing, and the sumo hairpieces too. And as you say, who doesn't love samurai? Quote
WhiteFang Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Very nicely done especially with the opening image. Like the way you have placed the Shogun General and Strategy in chinese characters. I really like the Series 3 Samurai and I could imagine the general issuing a secret mission to the Ninja hiding behind the door. Thanks for sharing it with us. Quote
Skalldyr Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Wow, that is very nice. I love the roof and all the other details as the sliding door and the little pond....and those Minifig 3 parts are perfectly fitting in there! Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Truly excellent design! The pond is great! The roof is beautiful and you've shown how to use the newest minfigures in a creative way, so two thumbs up for me! Quote
metalslime Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Thanks everyone for the compliments! I had great fun building this vignette because there were many challenges in the technicalities to overcome. There are many things I'd like to improve, but I guess I'll do that on my new year Lego resolution--- to build a big samurai castle!!!!!! Quote
Cecilie Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I love a good japanese themed MOC, and your's is superb . The roof, the walls, the sliding door, the pond, the nicely done black-and-white picture. What's not to like? Looking forward to seeing your big samurai castle . Quote
oo7 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 You've made excellent use of new minifigure parts for a fine homage to that "magnificent" Kurosawa era. The detail on the roof is much more interesting than the rather typical bland slopes, and the colorful variety of detail is also nice, pond and lantern in particular. Thanks for the flickr link too - I've added you as a contact. Quote
