richb Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Kroger's grocery stores (Great Lakes/Northeast US) have some small impulse sets marked down to $1. My local store had 7566 Farmer and 7953 Jester available in stock. No limit.
lesager Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I'll keep an eye out on the ones near me which are the Smith's Grocery stores. Thanks for the heads up. =)
legoloco Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Can you tell us where in the store you found them? I'll try to hit one of their affiliate stores after work today. My Farm 7637 and Pig Farm 7684 are arriving today so I could use more pigs.

It's probably different based on store arrangement/franchisee, but at the store nearest me there is a small section of $10-and-under impulse toys (Hot Wheels, Barbies, etc ...) near the breakfast aisle. It's where all the kids will see them when they're pestering you for Lucky Charms and Pop-Tarts. This was the first time I've seen LEGO in a Kroger in probably 20 years. lesager Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Kroger is a company that operates many chains of grocery stores including: Smith's Kroger Food4Less Fry's & Ralph's There are way too many to list so just visit this link to check: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kroger
Donut Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) This is great news, thanks for sharing! While I have not seen LEGO at my Kroger, the appearance of small sets to me means TLC is expanding its market. Perhaps we'll see collectible minifigures in the near future? Edited January 11, 2011 by Donut
lesager Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I sure hope so, Target nor TRU carry the collectible minifigures near me. I'd have to drive at least 30 minutes to the next nearest TRU to find one, but I don't want to waste the gas on a 2.99 figure. =P I did a quick google search and it seems they went on sale because they were a "seasonal" item, perhaps as stocking fillers. Another lego message board listed a few more sets on sale: Rebel Trooper Battle Pack 8083- was 10.99 now 5.49 Snow Trooper Battle Pack 8084- was 10.99 now 5.49 Kingdoms Court Jester 7953- was 3.99 now 1.99 Kingdoms Wizard 7955- was 3.99 now 1.99 City Farmer 7566- was 3.99 now 1.99 However, the posting was dated the day after Christmas.
lowbike1 Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Lucky Americans! All those cheap pigs! no doubt! I'd buy 50 of them
lesager Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I just checked my local Smith's. Completely sold out, that or I couldn't find them. =(
UsernameMDM Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Thanks for posting this. I have 2 Kroger's close to my house and will be checking them out tomorrow after work.
lesager Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I just got back from another Smith's that is only a bit further. They do have the impulse sets for $2.59 but not for $1.00. Still, $2.59 is better than $4.50 or $4.99 like at TRU or Target. The ones my Smith's had were: 7955 - Kingdoms Wizard (Weird, because the Lego.com store says it's not available in this country.) 7566 - City Farmer (Yay, pig and dog!) 7953 - Kingdoms Jester (Matches my Harley Quinn minifigure.)
richb Posted January 12, 2011 Author Posted January 12, 2011 Spent my lunch this afternoon driving across town to check the other Kroger here. They had the signage on the shelf denoting $1.00 "LEGO Impulse Assort" but were sold out. Somebody else already beat me to that one.
