BearHeart Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I recently made two requests to LEGO CS for broken parts. One was at the end of December for a broken Wookie torso/head piece from the Battle of Endor. After three days, I got an email asking for proof of purchase. I contacted LEGO over the phone and gave them the number from the instruction booklet and the CSR said I'll get the piece in the mail soon. She also said that LEGO required the proof of purchase because it was a liscensed set. A week ago (Jan 3rd) I made another request for a saddle piece, which had a broken clip, from the Echo Base (the one with the Taun-taun) and I have yet to recieve a request for a proof of purchase. SO my question is, will LEGO CS require a proof of purchase for this piece since its from a liscensed set or will then not because the saddle piece is not really a Star Wars specific piece? Quote
Duke Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I think LEGO are more wary about giving out minifigure parts than normal parts, because they are the ones which go for big money online. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 It's because LEGO only holds certain licenses when it comes to Star Wars, and because of the same Hasbro license that glued the magnets, they have to make sure you actually have the set before giving you a minifigure by itself. Quote

This doesn't answer my question. I did not ask "Why do they require a proof of purchase for the minifig piece". Its kinda obvious why they need it. I asked " will LEGO CS require a proof of purchase for this piece since its from a liscensed set or will then not because the saddle piece is not really a Star Wars specific piece?" Quote
AndyC Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I asked " will LEGO CS require a proof of purchase for this piece since its from a liscensed set or will then not because the saddle piece is not really a Star Wars specific piece?" Sometimes they ask for proof of purchase, sometimes not and sometimes they require the defective piece to be returned. I don't think you'll find a hard and fast answer to that question. Quote

Sorry, I was clarifying for the guy above me and forgot to quote. I really don't know, but I'd think they would not require the proof of purchase for the saddle because, as you said, it is not a licensed piece. Quote
lesager Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) Woops, I replied in the wrong topic, sorry! Mods, can you please delete this? On second thought, I requested two parts that were missing in non-licensed sets and got an e-mail immediately saying my parts will arrive in up to ten days. No proof or anything... Syn Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I've dealt with them twice, once for a missing piece(which they wanted to charge me almost 10 bucks for a special 2x1 brick) and once for a defective part, each time they made me send the POP number and a picture of the defective part. I never received the defective part to which they replied, "We can not send another" this is my experience and I can honestly say I will not deal with them unless absolutely necessary. Quote

Wow, thats terrible. I've always heard good things about LEGO CS and I've had several good experiences with them myself. Quote
Walter Kovacs Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 That's a shame, Syn. I for one have had to contact them about missing pieces many times, and they have always sent replacements, no questions asked. For the OP, I would imagine the proof of purchase requiremnt is because the part in question was a liscensed minifig part, and not some mundane, easily replacable piece. When I opened my 6212 X-Wing, it was missing 12 parts total, and LEGO replaced all of them. Quote
