BlackFire Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I have been searching all over the internet for someway to build a electric lego car that can move one meter without wheels. It is for my robotics class. At first I was trying to build an automatic transmission lego car, but that was too hard and I spent like a week on it with no progress. Now Im going to try to build the lego car with no wheels. My teacher gave me a hint that maybe it should have legs? I have no idea how to build this, we've been building legos in our class the whole year but this project is too hard. Im just looking to find anyone that could help me with this. Do you guys know how to build it, know a tutorial or video on youtube of one? Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, I didnt know where else to put it. Quote
LEGOMAN132 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) If you can use some non lego parts you could make a hover car. Edited January 8, 2011 by LEGOMAN132 Quote
BlackFire Posted January 8, 2011 Author Posted January 8, 2011 If you can use some non lego parts you could make a hover car. It has to be all legos unfortunately, and the motor are those little ones that have a small stud connecting to it that spins. Thanks for responding though Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 If you can use some non lego parts you could make a hover car. What do you mean, non-LEGO? This would be expensive, but go grab a few 48x48 baseplates and a few hundred magnets, and bam! LEGO hover car! Don't know if the rules say it can use a base, though. Otherwise, what about treads and legs? Treads are easy, and with the legs, LEGO's done all the hard stuff for you with the design of the Motorized AT-AT. (and Dark Side Developer Kit before it) Quote
vmln8r Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Perhaps more appropriate in the Technic section? I'd make a walker for the wow factor - click here for instructions for the Motorised AT-AT. Quote
Gioppa Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 without wheels?maybe legs,do you remember zoids? Quote
escortmad79 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 How about legs like this spider robot: Or are you allowed to use tracks as technically it's not driving on wheels Quote
Vincent Kessels Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Depends on your definition of car, but the Expert Builder Idea Book from 1980 had instructions for a walking Technic Lego Dog. See Peeron for the pages with the instructions (page 74 - 77). Quote

This is kind of what im looking for, it doesnt have to be a car, shape, just something that movies with out wheels for 1 meter. Anyone else know other types? Quote
LEGOMAN132 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 (edited) What do you mean, non-LEGO? Like a inertube for the air cushion. Not as in clone brands. Edited January 8, 2011 by LEGOMAN132 Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 My teacher gave me a hint that maybe it should have legs? Another option might be a segmented shape that moves like a sidewinder. Or a "crawler" with arms that flip to drag the whole vehicle forward. The crawler would probably be far easier. Unfortunately I don't have anywhere the technical skills to explain how to do this in Lego, but those are ideas. Quote
fred67 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) This was my first attempt at such a beast... I've done other ones, but didn't make a movie. It's a simple walker. Not particularly elegant, but it worked. Here's a movie. Edited January 9, 2011 by fred67 Quote
