petero Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I'm trying to build the Sarcophagus in LLD (and eventually with real bricks), but I'm running into problems. Here is the Sarcophagus in Bricklink: LLCA Sarcophagus Does anyone have the instructions for this set? The picture is so small that it's hard to make out details, even when the picture is enlarged. From looking at the picture and comparing it to the inventory, I'm not sure the inventory is accurate. For instance, it looks to me like there's a hinge just above the inverted 1 x 3 slopes forming the upper legs, but the inventory doesn't show the hinge bricks. Hopefully this will become the innermost coffin in a Tutankhamun-style nest of coffins and shrines. Thanks! Peter Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I've searched brickset for this set but It doesn't appear to be there I think I recall seeing it somewhere but I just can't remember. If I do I'll post it . Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) I'm pretty sure I posted an LDD model of it in the Official Sets topic. EDIT: Here we go: During the 2008 LEGOLAND California Ambassador Member 'Class', the 'advanced' giveaway model was a Sarcophagus, to commemorate the new Land of Adventure addition to the park. .LXF File Only change is that the beard is supposed to be a 1x1 round; apparently it gets too close to the cheese on the arms to be allowed in LDD. petero Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 Thanks, Brickdoctor! I never thought to check the official sets. I'd completed my version by the time I read my mail, and I'm pleasantly surprised how close I got. I had only a few pieces different than it should have been. The beard brick didn't work for me either, and I substituted the same two plates that you did. And it confirms that the Bricklink inventory has at least one error - it uses three yellow hinge plates instead of the hinge bricks. Peter Quote

Peter No actually, the instructions called for one hinge brick, but apparently LLC ran out so everyone got three hinge plates pre-stacked for us instead. I decided to abide by the instructions when I built the LDD model. Quote
petero Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 That's great trivia! Would it be possible for you to scan the instruction sheet for me? I'd like to have a copy of it to go with your LDD file. Peter Quote

Brickdoctor Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Sorry for the wait. I forgot that the Instructions are printed on glossy white paper, so it was hard to photograph and impossible to edit properly. I'll see if I can get better pics, but for now, here they are: Click the main pic for the Brickshelf gallery when public. They're really just glorified LDraw printouts. petero Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Thanks very much for the photos. I really like to see the original paperwork that comes with a set. I've been modifying the design, so mine looks like this: There will also be an outer coffin and sarcophagus to go with it. Who knows - if I stay motivated long enough, I might finish the entire tomb Peter Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Looks fantastic! Are you going to put a mummy inside it? Quote
petero Posted January 13, 2011 Author Posted January 13, 2011 Thanks! There isn't a lot of room inside, but maybe a minifig Pharaoh would fit. The minifig Nemes headdress is rather wide front to back, so it might not fit. I used 43722's for the back of the sarcophagus headdress, so that closed up the inside of the head. I also got rid of the hinges, and substituted pins to hold it together. That was partly because real sarcophagi don't have hinges, but mostly because the hinge gets in the way of making the outer sarcophagus fit as snugly as possible. This would look really striking with the yellow replaced with gold, but I doubt many of the pieces are available in gold. Peter Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 It's 2 studs deep when closed and four studs wide at the torso, so I think with a little rearranging of limbs a Miniland-scale figure could fit. Quote
