Gabe Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Hi all - here is my entry for the "Rob the rich" catagory in CCCVIII. I hope you enjoy it half as much as i enjoyed making it! The kings tax collectors from the MMV were easy pickings for the forest renegades, especially when they decided to take a "short cut" through the deepest part of the forest. After divesting the tax collectors of thier booty, Robbie and his merry compatriots pay a visit to the the eccentric bowyer and fletcher of Belgrave, Eric Lomax. Eric tells Robbie that for a hefty fee he will sell him a new prototype bow he has been developing, one which will shoot faster and more accurately than the traditional yew longbows, and be faster to load than crossbows. Robbie shells out in an instant, thinking gleefully about the upcoming archery tournament in the nearby hamlet of Sherwood - surely with this awesome new bow he can claim first prize and recoup the outlay? But wait! Oh noes! It looks like a Crownie patrol have recognised Belgrave's most wanted. Will Robbie get away? I also fear for Eric - hopefully he won't be subjected to extrordinary rendition to an troll/orc labour camp or anything. Hope the pics aren't too large - my apologies if so. I tried to grab the smaller images from Flickr, but i couldn't get them to show. Thanks for looking and happy hols everyone! Quote
Big Cam Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Awesome, I have'nt seen a straight up forestment MOC in a while. I really like the tree's and using the old school LEGO leaves for the scene. It just hase the forestment feel to it. Good luck in the contest! Quote
TheWarden Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Exquisite! Do you have larger pics elsewhere (you mention Flickr)? I'd like to look at the details. Otherwise, the building is great with lots of rustic detail and you display a knack for forest greenspaces. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Excellent creation gabe! The forestmen's lair is very well done with realistic overall wooden finish and fine details in the interiors. The trees and green surroundings also give an effective forest-y feel on the whole build. Great work and best of luck! Quote
Gabe Posted December 29, 2010 Author Posted December 29, 2010 Thankyou all for yr kind words! @TheWarden, unfortunately the terms of the comp state i can only post 3 pics of my entry, none of them larger than 800x600, so these are the largest i have online. It's a shame i didn't think about how it would photograph at that size when i was building it - quite a bit of the detail gets lost. Maybe i should have made the brick-built bow stand out a bit more at least... it's supposed to be a compound bow, which is a bit of an archery joke! Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Like the others said, the first picture sure looks very forest-ish. The other MOC is also nice. I like the 'bow shop' design with the brown arches in it and the part where the archer is standing on the roof. And though it might be a bit too modern, your custom bow also seems very nice. Good use of the sextant there Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Wonderful MOC gabe! I think you've done a phenomenal job with the ruins and the chandelier in the forestman building is a great design! Quote

Good use of the sextant there Thanks! Yeah, the sextant was the only thing i found that remotely resembled a sight. Compound bows are very modern, Wiki mentions a patent granted in 1969, but then Eric of Belgrave was very ahead of his time! Wonderful MOC gabe! I think you've done a phenomenal job with the ruins and the chandelier in the forestman building is a great design! Thanks heaps! Quote
ED-209 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 A gorgeous MOC! I love the look of the overgrown ruins, very nice indeed. I agree that a closer shot of the compound bow would be nice though! Quote

I just uploaded a pic of the bow in isolation to my flickr - for some reason i can't seem to hotlink the image here, but the link is below: Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 That is really well done gabe! The ambush is great, a nice forest scene. The trees and ruins look very well. As for the building, it is awesomeness. I would prefer a wooden floor in there using tiles, and a picture from the front too. The dark green cheese-slopes on the roof are a great touch! Quote
Enpaz Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Truly awesome! Like BigCam, I haven't seen a proper forestmen MOC for a while too. The interior in the building is superb. Really great job on this. Cheers! Quote
moc2 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Awesome, I love forest scenes. Forestmen were some of my all-time favorite sets. Great job on the bow shop too. Quote

Thanks for yr kind comments! Haha, yeah, i flat out used up all my brown tiles on the viewing platform roof and roof walkway. I was thinking of more a cobbled stone floor, but i was out of grey 1x1 rounds and didn't have enough grey plates to even consider that option, soo... yeah. Also, the interior was looking quite crowded with detail and it kinda looked nice to have an area of solid colour/texture as a contrast. Truly awesome! Like BigCam, I haven't seen a proper forestmen MOC for a while too. The interior in the building is superb. Really great job on this. Cheers! Thanks mate! Awesome, I love forest scenes. Forestmen were some of my all-time favorite sets. Great job on the bow shop too. Yeah, they are my favs too. My 6066 forestman's hideout has a special place in my heart for sure. Thanks for yr comment! Edited January 1, 2011 by gabe Quote
