Geki Brick Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 How far have you gone to get your hands on a set you absolutely needed to have? I'm sorta in this mood now. My local small business toy store has a toy(not Lego) that happened to sell a day after I spotted it, and decided not to buy it. Imagine the regret. My big move now is to ask the store owner if she can order another one from her wholesaler. I'm going to leave a down payment of 100% of the original price. I hope she can do it. If not, I will be okay, though. If this topic doesn't belong here, treat it as how far you would go if you were in my situation. A set you really wanted is sold out by your local small business. What will you do knowing that it might not come back if you wait. Quote
dr jones Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 Really simple, I would track down the one who bought that set and kill him. No, seriously, maybe search for it on the internet? Quote
Sisco Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 I've traveled all the way to the Savannah, Georgia Lego store for some cheap sets before. That's about a Day's drive from here. Quote
user Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 One time in order to get the Mos Espa podrace set for cheap ($40) I bought it on my dad's Ebay account and paid him back later. Quote
sok117 Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 I totally mis-interpreted the title of the topic Umm, I don't know, a bus ride to my loacl mall I guess, I've never really gone out of my way. Quote
RileyC Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 I feel most of us havent had like a huge expedition to get an elusive set because getting it off the internet is so easy. The furthest I have gone is probably finding the lego store the day before in Brisbane Australia. Then forgetting where it was and spending all afternoon searching for it. Its not much but I was really relieved to get my y wing! Quote
Zanki Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 When I was a kid, I really wanted the Quasar Saber and Transdaggers (Power Rangers Lost Galaxy Toys) and me and my mum went everywhere to try and track them down. The problem was we did find them, once. I begged her for them, she refused to buy them and them regretted it later and tried to help me find them. Still don't have the toys and it still bothers me. Same with the Turbo navigator, but she refused to buy that because for some reason the toy was also a gun and she said girls can't play with guns (yeah, that didn't last too long). Since then, I did purposly go to CeX in Hemel Hempstead the other day to pick up a game I really wanted but couldn't find anywhere else. Wasn't really out of my way though since I was staying there for Christmas. Quote

My mom refused to buy it and now that it's gone, we spent yesterday looking through 5 99-cent department stores for it! Quote
dr_spock Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I went as far as bribing relatives in another country to get the 8258 crane truck since it was not sold in my home country. Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 £1.80 and a 40 minute bus ride. Did you go to Bluewater by any chance? I've traveled about an hour and a half before, but only when I know they've got the set I want on sale and I can't find it anywhere else. Mostly I make detours in journeys I'm making anyway so if I have to go somehwere and there's a Toys R Us around I pop in. Quote
