Donut Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 (edited) Pardon me Admins for starting a new thread, but I believe this sale is worth getting the word out. It appears that USA Shop at Home is clearing out most of its inventory. There are a ton of sets on sale right now. Go ahead click the link and check them out before it's too late! Brickdoctor Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Oh man! I just bought the Midi-ISD, too, and I have the Home One, and I don't want the JSF. Couple SW sets that I totally would have snatched up, but they're sold out. Thanks for the tip, anyways.

You can order a Midi-ISD, and return the one you get from S@H to the store and get a full refund.

No, 'cause the stores have to sell at S@H's price, so I'll just get the $20 back. Not the greatest loss, anyways, since the sold out sets are ones I only kinda wanted. fred67 Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 No, 'cause the stores have to sell at S@H's price, so I'll just get the $20 back. Not if you have a receipt. So I checked out the "epic" sale, and found most of the decent stuff sold out... the problem is, a LOT of the stuff was already sold out BEFORE the sale, so it's kind of bogus, if you ask me. For example, Green Grocer's been sold out for a couple of weeks, and now it's "on sale?" Ditto train track packs and a few other things. I haven't switched trains to PF (I use PF for other things, though) and one of my big complaints is the expensive battery pack PLUS another $25 for the charger... but the charger was half price. Still... waiting for new battery packs, still $50 for the rechargeable. I suppose they just had their computer timed to trigger a sale of a list of items, but it seems somewhat shady, almost bait-and-switch-ish, although I did get a chance to get a few things... I picked up several Midi ISDs and several Pig Farmers, among other things. Pity you can't preorder Diagon Alley or Series 3 minifigures, though.
The Soup Nazi Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Why must almost EVERYTHING be sold out! Why!
Big Cam Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 I picked up the midi scale star destroyer and a handful of keychains all 50% off not ten minutes ago.
OneSnowTrooper Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 got the sale email from S&H at 16:08 (The Netherlands) but almost 99% is sold out already! really doubdt this sale went correct... or they had very low numbers of sets in sale.
Buckshot Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 I agree with Fred. This "sale" is pretty bogus. Everything's sold out (and several were sold out beforehand--like Brickbeard's Bounty). C'mon, Lego! Don't be like TRU!
asharerin Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 I agree with Fred. This "sale" is pretty bogus. Everything's sold out (and several were sold out beforehand--like Brickbeard's Bounty). C'mon, Lego! Don't be like TRU! On the US site probably 75% of the sets listed in the sale were never available to begin with and have been sold out for quite a few weeks. Do not feel bad thinking you missed a good sale as most of these sets where never available in this sale. Picked up the Home One set for a good price and some farm sets for the youngens. The midi star destroyer is also a good deal and is to still available as of right now but I have the larger 6211 so don't really need it...would be a great buy just for the parts tho.
Enpaz Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 (edited) Oh my, had it just known earlier of this... so many great sets on sale! Come dudes, Green Grocer for 80 euros!! And it definitely wasn't sold out before in Austria, so no fake here. Echo Base for 13 euros! Would've been really sweet! Edited December 25, 2010 by Enpaz
MAH4546 Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 When LEGO stores re-open tomorrow, pretty good chance that they will be price matching. So for the rare LEGO store that still has a Taj Mahal or Green Grocer, you'll probably find a bargain.
Karto Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Oh my, had it just known earlier of this... so many great sets on sale! Come dudes, Green Grocer for 80 euros!! And it definitely wasn't sold out before in Austria, so no fake here. Echo Base for 13 euros! Would've been really sweet! It's just a bad joke from TLG over the past few years to put some interesting sets 50% off, but marked as 'sold out', even if they were still available the day before. I've checked the sales last night and unless someone buys everything in 5 minutes, it's done on purpose. Untill three years back, there were some real sales... I can be wrong, but then I would like to hear from anyone in Europe that could grab a Green Grocer, a Taj Mahal, a Grand Carousel or a Motorized AT-AT for half the price - other sets don't matter.
Stegoceras Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 When I read the mail I got my heart starting pounding madly and I in my head I saw the cash on my bank-account being funneled to TLG (really insane low prices), but then reality hit me, as anything that's even nearly interesting has a tag 'sold out'. Well good to read that these kind of 'sold out' sales are not unfamiliar and I don't have to feel like I missed out on a great opportunity. I guess this is just a bit of ruse to sell the keychains, less desirable stuff and some small sets that sell badly.
Stash2Sixx Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 WOW!!! Lotta haters in here I see! LEGO has two major sales, and those of you who have been doing this for a while know this. One is near the end of June, and the other is after Christmas. Why? Oh right, it's to make room for all of the new items that are coming in. The powers that be have already decided how long sets will last on the shelves. Green Grocer has been around long enough. If you waited, well that sucks! Live and learn. There is no trickery, there is no bait and switch. These sets gotta go to make room. I know where I will be at 7am tomorrow morning. I'll be at my local LEGO store. You can order a Midi-ISD, and return the one you get from S@H to the store and get a full refund. Explain?
Soulgem Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Yup, this looks like a fake sale. Both Minifigs series 2 and Green Grocer was sold out already, most of those other sets probably were too. Annoying that TLG pulls a trick like this, but ok.. Those of you who haven't felt like picking up Home One before, should probably do it now, it's a cool set. No one will buy that UCS Jedi fghter, not even at 50% off
prateek Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Explain? Order a ISD from S@H. When you get it, return it to the store you got the previous one you already opened with the receipt from that store. Yup, this looks like a fake sale. Both Minifigs series 2 and Green Grocer was sold out already, most of those other sets probably were too. Annoying that TLG pulls a trick like this, but ok.. Why would this be a fake sale? Lego is a company that wants to make money, and if it was a fake sale, they would actually lose money in getting sued for posting up a "fake sale". They have to take pride in their business, like anyone else in this world.

I think most people know the purpose of a sale The complains are about the fact that some sets like the Green Grocer were put on sale while being marked as sold out. Over the last two years I witnessed two times the sales going live (by refreshing the page). So basically, I should have been by the very first ones, and yet, the few interesting sets were already sold out (but were still available when being at the regular price) - it's magic...

Heh, I understand the concept of old stuff out new stuff in, but that's not what people are talking about. Not every country has it's star wars lego shop to go to, then to send those people that can't profit of that fact an email and offer things you don't have is not really an offer at all. Of course no loss and no gain (nothing to get really upset about), but it's strange business nonetheless.

Gryphon Ink Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 That would be totally awesome if every single decent set wasn't already sold out. A lot of it was actually sold out before the sale started. There is another thread about this, too.

Stash2Sixx Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 And I'm sure most people know the purpose of a sale. Most people, who buy LEGO, also know that sets don't last forever. It's good to know what's going to be gone for good right? I guess I was more amazed at all the people who complained that it was a fake sale, or that there were bait and switch tactics being used. Really, a giant company in this day and age is gonna try to pull that? As for those of you without a LEGO store, I can see some of your frustration.
Soulgem Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 And I'm sure most people know the purpose of a sale. Most people, who buy LEGO, also know that sets don't last forever. It's good to know what's going to be gone for good right? I guess I was more amazed at all the people who complained that it was a fake sale, or that there were bait and switch tactics being used. I wouldn't say people are complaining, more pointing it out. And we all recognize the purpose of the sale. Clearing out stock. While I don't really care, as I have all the 2010 sets I want, I still think it's a bit of a cheap move to half the price on sets that have been sold out for a while. And it's not like it's a scripting problem, as there still are sets that haven't been put on sale. So someone deliberately put the likes of Green Grocer on sale, even if it's already sold out. Why? Really, a giant company in this day and age is gonna try to pull that? Bigger companies have done worse.. Personally, I'll let this lie, I think it's great when sets sell out. But conspiracy theories are always entertaining
richb Posted December 26, 2010 Posted December 26, 2010 (edited) Worth noting that while the bulk of the really desirable stuff was already sold out, what you can usually take from these sales is what is officially discontinued. Pirates was still available up until a few days before Christmas, and is now sold out. The category grouping under Themes was taken down, so the secondary market for Pirates should really ramp up. The two that are surprising to me are the 8403 City House, which wasn't available for a real long time by City standards, appears discontinued, as does the 9247 Community Workers pack, which has been in the store for years. I would assume that 9247 will now be updated with new parts, so red bicycles and the 3-wheelers from this set are likely out of production for some time. BTW, anyone that missed 8403, if you don't want to pay $60+ prices on eBay, as I type this there are four left in stock at Amazon (sold by Target) for MSRP. Edited December 26, 2010 by richb
