Emperor Claudius Rome Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I got my Uncles old Mac recently, and I want to use it to play PC games after I get it updated in a few days. I know it's possibel to put Windows on a mac, but from what I have read you need certain software to do so. Anybody who has put Windows on here, was there any freed software that allowed you to do it? Quote
Ricecracker Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 If you're just running Windows on it, you might want to see how much you could sell it for, and then use that money towards a new PC. Here's Apple's guide to using Boot Camp. Another alternative you could try is Wine. Quote
Emperor Claudius Rome Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 I don't want to sell it, because I'm gonna use OSX for non-gaming purposes. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 If you're willing to pay, VMWare Fusion and Parallels desktop allow you to run both OSs side by side, which could be a big help if you plan to use both and don't want to reboot every time you switch. Sun used to have a free virtual machine program as well, but I've never looked into it and I don't know if it still exists after Oracle bought them out. Quote
Eskallon Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 You have a choice between Bootcamp which comes pre-installed in the utilities section of your mac, or you can use another program like parellels. I would just make some thorough searches through google. The only thing is though that there is nothing free, you will need at the least a version of windows for bootcamp. Good Luck Quote
