While in Disney World last week, at the Lego store nonetheless, I started to wonder why I hadn't seen any Mickey/Minnie/etc based sets yet. Someone at the Lego store said something regarding licensing issues, but I want a little more info (if it's even available!).

I can see a few mega sets being viable, and a lot of neat landmark/nostalgic pieces as well. So are there plans for future Disney themed sets?

The most obvious Disney themed sets coming out are the Pirates of the Carribean sets, due out in 2011. Although I suspect you are talking about character themed sets (Mickey/Donald/Goofy), to which I don't have any info. I'm pretty sure that there have been block built sets of the main Disney team, probably a Disney owned sub-company. Duplo did do a set of Pooh back in the mid/late 90s, but I'm not sure what happened to the license on that.

There were Mickey sets in 2000, but they were arguably semi-Fabuland style. Perhaps for that reason, they didn't do so well. Maybe LEGO will someday make normal minifig-size Mickey sets, but I wouldn't count on it. Mickey doesn't rally make for such an exciting theme.

That's too bad - I would snatch it up in a heartbeat. And that's how I think I could get my fiance on board with the large amount of LEGO I'm amassing, haha. We got engaged in Disney, and she's looking to do our wedding there. What better way to get her involved than letting her build something she absolutely loves?

The Pirates of the Caribbean sets might be on my list, but I'm a MUCH bigger fan of modular sets. :) Thanks anyways for the info. I'll try and keep an eye on what's coming, too.

POTC may be forthcoming, but while you may consider Cars and Toy Story to be Pixar, those are Disney licenses.

I wouldn't mind a new monorail. I would rather have a generic one for my city, but I'll take a Disney-fied one over nothing.

I was in WDW a few months ago and it struck me how perfect a Haunted Mansion Lego set would be. You could even make several sets: a big one of the facade and a few smaller sets depicting some of the interior scenes: the dining room, the graveyard, etc.

I've seen some great MOCs online of the Mansion.
